That's why Happy House is on speed dial.

I'm both that lazy AND that disorganized.  Sometimes I just decide not to bother eating because it's too much hassle.

That could be a real boon for new parents, especially if mom is home alone with the baby and is too exhausted to drive to the store, that is if there's a car available for her to drive in the first place. And if you've ever taken a baby or toddler to the store, I can see how getting your stuff delivered would be preferable.

Also would be pretty handy for folks who have to rely on public transportation to do their shopping. Or someone who has mobility issues.

If they can deliver alcohol, I see this really taking off.

I love amazon fresh.  Getting groceries delivered when you have two small children makes life so much easier.

Certainly been there. It's called "I have to walk to the grocery store and carry my food back because I don't have a car or a cart".

Grocery delivery makes sense. A little barcode scanner that assists you in making an order for grocery delivery is a bit much though.

2014-04-05 06:05:19 PM
I'm lazy, disorganized, can't cook, and have an illness that makes walking around the store for 10 minutes much more difficult than it should be.  But I'm still doing it in a few hours.  So, no thanks.

/Seems like a good way to end up eating the same crap over and over.
//I do that anyway, but at least it's a bit of exercise.

I'd be all over this if it wasn't only in 3 major cities.

I guess if you don't have a smartphone that can download one of the 31415927 free barcode-reader applications or a computer where you can... y'know, type in the name of the food you're ordering, it could be useful.

I sort of question that people with a regular periodic grocery delivery service set up have neither a cell phone nor a computer, though.  If you're that low-tech you're probably just going to walk to the store.

2014-04-05 06:19:38 PM
There are a few grocery stores in my town that have online ordering for pick up or delivery. There is a charge for the delivery. These same stores used to allow call in and delivery before the computer age.
I imagine if you looked around your towns you would find the same services available at your local grocery store.
On more than one occasion I have ordered online and stopped to pick up my order on the way home from work.

Been there. Done that. At least if I'm home with the kids they can all help carry a bag or two.

// garbonzo beans sauted in butter are delicious and nutritious

Not having anything to eat in the house and not feeling like going to the store is why they invented pizza delivery.

2014-04-05 08:57:27 PM
Actually, 'Yes' subby. Nice to see that you live alone, though.

What's worse is that any venture out of the house becomes an ongoing telephone game of "Oh, just one more thing."...

Besides, a 2 mile trip to the grocery store, with stoplights and morons in cars ends up being a 1/2 an hour voyage.

So yeah, sometimes it's a farking "hassle".

I'm a bachelor so... yes, constantly.

2014-04-05 09:14:18 PM
Not really. What happens ever so often  that turning the provisions in the pantry into food is too much of a hassle, or I don't want to eat whatever I have. But for some reason if I don't have enough food to eat for a week or so I get nervous. Even though I live in a major city with no chance of getting cut off or anything.

Well, maybe your U.S. My U.S. has Safeway, booze, and hookers. It's neat. Luckily, there are other grocery chains that offer delivery without having to pay Amazon's markup.

I keep explaining to the wife that they start out as pettin' kittens, but it doesn't take much to make 'em eatin' kittens. A nice white gravy, some toast, and you're good to go.

Meh, Stop And Shop has had Peapod grocery delivery to your kitchen up here in the NE for years now .  Their prices aren't even so bad, and delivery charge is $5 i think.

Doesn't stop the grocery stores around here being madhouses on a weekend.  So, no, unless Amazon Fresh can vastly undercut Shoprite, Costco, and the rest, there won't be a massive flight from supporting the local economy by shopping local.

I'm lazy and disorganized, and I worked a 72 hour week. Yet somehow, the wife and I managed to go to the grocery store, the pharmacy, gas up the car and hit the liquor store.

While my wife would love to have food delivered, she's far too cheap to pay for delivery. Not going to the store is not an option.
