These games will be won or lost based on the niceness of the cars driven by the respective coaches. Let's break it down:

Game 1:

Florida Gators (1)
Coach: Billy Donovan
Drives: 2009 Nissan Murano

vs.

UConn Huskies (7)
Coach: Kevin Ollie
Drives: 2012 Chevy Camaro LT RS

Analysis: It's hard to fault Donovan's selection of the Murano. It's a spacious four-door SUV with a top-20 safety rating and full front and side airbags standard. With the money he saved on the base price, he was able to upgrade this considerably with the leather package and power sunroof. It's perfect for his basic needs. It's dependable and is likely to last a long time. But now you step back and you consider Ollie's choice, and it's pure running and gunning. It's power and speed and the acceleration on the 0-60 can suck your eyeballs three inches into your head. While the Murano is built to last, the Camaro is built for one thing and one thing only: a head-to-head race. It's solid and dependable, but the Murano doesn't have the horses to compete.

Advantage: Huskies

Game 2:

University of Kentucky (8)
Coach: John Calipari
Drives: 2014 Audi R8 Spyder (convertible)

vs.

Wisconsin Badgers (2)
Coach: Bo Ryan
Drives: 2014 Lexus IS

Analysis: At first glance, this bracket belongs to Cal. Hard to argue with a sleek, powerful machine like the R8. You know what you're getting with Audi: the power, handling, performance and brand. But if you dig beneath the surface, you start to see the ground shift.

The Infiniti's lower price gives Bo lots of upgrade options across the board: all-wheel drive, heated seats and mirrors, dual-zone climate control, power moonroof, the rear-wheel-drive sports package with a digital instrument panel, bolstered and heated front seats. Audi bests the Infiniti on paper by 100 hp, but even loaded with perks, Infiniti manages to be much lighter, making them comparable in a head-to-head competition. The difference is that the Audi comes with far fewer upgrades for a much higher cost, and its reliability is suspect despite being nearly three times the cost. On value you've gotta give this one to Bo.

Advantage: Badgers

I just made it up. It's actually really damn hard to find out what different coaches drive, so I made up the cars. Thought I'd kick off the thread with a little silliness.

Yep.  No OTA-TV for the Final Four.  See also the College Football National Championship.

And in a couple years the NCAA Basketball Championship

Normalcy will be restored Monday, when CBS will carry the championship game, but viewers shouldn't get too comfy. In 2016, that game will be on TBS, too.

First time I will have watched TBS in ... well, forever.

If it wasn't for sports, I would SOOOO cut the cable cord. I mean, in a quickness.

2014-04-05 06:01:16 PM
Continuing the chorus of F*CK CABLE.

I cannot understand how it's a bigger moneymaker for the NCAA to go to cable, unless they're paying the equivalent of the national debt.

2014-04-05 06:03:22 PM
Oh goddammit, now I'm on a stream that is Pro Gators.

F*ck this sh*t ugh

2014-04-05 06:08:22 PM
This nation is absurd. How the f*ck isn't this on CBS?

Cal drives a gold Lexus SUV. He parks it out front of the house. He built a fence around the place, but unlike Tubby, Pitino, and Gillespie he lives on a main road that becomes Main Street (Lexington roads randomly change names as they cross town.)

puffy999: This nation is absurd. How the f*ck isn't this on CBS?

It's the price the NCAA paid for getting all 67 games on national television.

2014-04-05 06:18:07 PM
Maybe it's because I'm watching on a stream...but does it seem like the video quality is different than normal?

Like a movie?

Something seems weird about the video flow, that doesn't seem like a stream issue.

Because A) the NCAA has a 'Fark You, Pay Us' attitude and B) CBS thinks the Massahs is more of a draw (even without Tiger), that's why.

So what's CBS showing this weekend?  Let's see... local news, CBS Evening News, infomercial, infomercial, Person of Interest rerun, Criminal Minds rerun, new 48 Hours, local news.  Yeah, those'll draw more eyes than the Final Four.  GG Moonves.

Except all those shows are probably more profitable than basketball, even if they get lower ratings.

Huskies are whimpering. Bleh!

At the quarter were on pace for a 64-16 game.

How? Not trying to be snarky, but I don't see how having a much larger audience, and thus charging more for commercials etc, would lead to a lower profit.

They must have gotten a heads up from John Madden. Making up the deficit with 3s.

Has anyone seen a player fall of the raised court?  My mom swears she has seen it happen multiple times.  She might be confusing it wrestling.

Seen it happen during Minnesota games, since their home court is raised. It just seems dangerous and dumb. I don't think they were hurt though.

Mostly rights. The big 4 networks do not make much of a profit on sports because the rights are insanely expensive. So even with higher ratings and higher ad costs basketball is going to make less money than, say, 48 hours, where they only have to worry about the cost of production and promotion.

2014-04-05 06:53:10 PM
Whoa.  When did UConn comeback?  I must have been stuffing my stupid face.

2014-04-05 06:53:49 PM
Just turned the game on. 16-15 with only 6 minutes left in the 1st half. WTF? Why so low (besides the obvious answered that nobody's scoring).

I think it was to up the price TBS would be willing to throw in by adding 2 of the best 3 games to the package.

Woof. My bad.  Though I saw some bullshait last weekend during the game saying it was this weekend. dnrtfl, so to speak.  Kind of like their setup right now, though: One network for one team, one for another, and a third for those who don't care.  Which one am I watching?  I'm watching myself die in Dark Souls II until the Mushroom-Jelly game comes on because I don't really care about this one.

/One can die a thousand deaths before they realize sometimes running IS a viable option.

Florida got out to a 16-4 lead, then UCONN roared back, and here we are.

It was a pretty terrible first 10 minutes. They're settling down now.
