This awful show is going to be in syndication for the next 20 years. Can't you just let it rest?

I'm so sick of people trying to tie shows together on some flimsy premise.

I'm going to say How I Met Your Mother is a prequel to The Human Centipede, because I'd like to think how the douches on that show end up.

How I Met Your Mother is really a prequel to Dad's Army.

No, no, HIMYM is a prequel to Herman's Head!

It's a very oblique sequel to M*A*S*H* - Barney's grandmother once got double-teamed by Hawkeye and Trapper in season two and ended up pregnant.

N it is totally subplots from STTNG. Do the math.

Wrong, How I Met Your Mother is a direct sequel to Firefly.

And ted is the result of the illegitimate son of Hot Lips and Winchester.

Actually, How I Met Your Mother is the prequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. After enduring nine years of that story, those kids develop some SERIOUS issues.

I don't mean that it's essentially the same kind of show - that honor would go to the UK's excellent Coupling, which in turn was essentially Friends with British accents

And you forgot how Friends was essentially Living Single without black people.

Living Single was pretty much The Facts of Life without a headmistress or a school setting.

So, put yours on the table. What national TV comedy do you enjoy? If the answer is 'none' you void all points.

Is Cheers ok? Cause I always enjoyed that one. And Frasier. And most of Scrubs. The earlier seasons, anyway.

People really need to get over HIMYM.  The show was once a funny sitcom (yes I do think it was funny at one point) that went off the rails several seasons ago, never really got back on track, and is finally over after dying a slow, painful death.  I don't understand why people want to see the finale remade when it seemed that most people had troubles even making it through the final season.  It's time to move on and find something else to watch people.  TV can, has, and will do better.

I always thought HIMYM was if the cast of Red Dwarf moved to NYC and started banging people?

Based on Lily's not so subtle lesbian tendency with Robin coupled with the fact that the actress that played Lily, Alyson Hannigan also played the lesbian witch Willow Rosenberg this is obviously some sort of alternate universe of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of the better silly new ones.

And even though they're canceling it, I liked "Enlisted."

I always found it creepy dad was telling the kids about his sex life.

Worst article about an even worse show. I wish I had not read it as I feel dumber for doing so.

Yeah, making it Full House will make up for it being awful. Nailed it.

I'd say 0, it's so far beyond possible I wouldn't give odds.

I don't care what you like.

I'm always curious as to what people who shiat on show A enjoy, just as a comparison.  In your case, it's all old stuff. Some egregiously old, like Cheers (82-93), and even Scrubs went off the air 5 years ago (if you don't count the 2010 attempt at a reboot).  Personally, I liked those two but loathed Frasier. I don't enjoy shows based on pretentiousness and hubris (I also farking hate The Office and swear to christ I will kill every farking god damned one of you until someone turns that shiat off. I would rather watch 4 hours of Honey Boo Boo's mother farking a giraffe).

I've only seen a few episodes of HIMYM. Didn't strike me either way, it's an average sitcom, just like 2.5 men was/is.  It's like going to McDonalds. You know what you're getting before you go, so it's hard to be surprised or disappointed.

Lsherm: Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of the better silly new ones.

It's rare for a comedy in that vein to start out so strong. It's a close relative to Parks & Recreation, which took at least a full season to find its footing, yet B99 started out with the character dynamics mostly figured out.

And Andre Braugher's delivery is amazing.

I love Brooklyn 99. I'm pretty disappointed that they already had their season finale.

I'm also mildly concerned that they jumped the shark with said finale.

Christine Rose (Ted's Mom) and Suzie Plakson (Marshall's Mom) both played Klingons on TNG, and Ben Vereen (James' Dad) was Geordi's dad.

Your story checks out.

It's in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen universe because Barney once met Jack Donaghy the masked orgy from Eyes Wide Shut.

How exactly did Barney get the mask over his own head with those tiny little purple arms?

lest be known every fictional universe on telelvision, after 1982 gulfs one event horizion dated May25,1988. This event horizon delves into the blackhole. Into the blackhole of plotholes, would they/wont they, cast replacements
and the dreaded clipshows. These exist in the mind of autistic boy of Tommy Westphall.

Theory #78928: Aliens have taken over the planet in the future.  They have selected one person to tell his story about how he met his mate: they have abducted Ted and forced him to tell the story to simulated versions of his kids.  (He does have a wife and kids in real life, but they're back on Earth.)  They are using his story as a test to determine whether all humans will die or if they are worthy to live as their slaves and prisoners. If the outcome of the story displeases them, everyone dies.

Ted, Sheharazade-style, keeps prolonging the story so that the rest of the humans can prepare to defend themselves against the alien invaders and save the planet.  He adds in trivial stuff to gage their reactions about what kind of outcome they prefer.  When he reaches the conclusion, he hopes that his comrades will find him and rescue him, or if not, that his family and friends and the rest of the planet will be saved.

You are awesome. Here is my theory:

HIMYM is a question posed to a quantum computer, and we, the viewing audience, are the qbits to determine the outcome. The actual plot and events during the series run is different for everyone. We discuss and post our opinions and whenever an agreement is made or an event is determined to be "good" then that becomes the real observed events I'm the series.

The series final is in superposition. You need to watch and discuss every episode to determine what the last episode is about, in order for it to become real and observable.

I have not watched the entire series but snuck ahead to view the last episode. So far, the series underlying existential theme is how life springs from death, the need for friends and how amazing it is to have compound eyes. The special effects in that show were amazing. How did they do that and where the hell did the bug people come from?
