Send up 2 for every 1 of theirs.  1 should get the incoming missile, the other will overshoot and land back in NK safe and sound ... ish.

Pyongyang has threatened an unspecified "new form" of nuclear test.

I'm wondering what this could be?

So far, they've just done underground tests I think.

And above ground test?  A test at sea?  Those would be new to NK, but they've been done by other nations.

Maybe he'll execute someone by forcing them to walk up to it with a hammer?

I'm all for making South Korea a lovely peaceful island.  Japan'll just need a lil help is all.

I'm going to guess "satellite hunter-killer" nuke.  But it won't work.

Good. I am tired of NK, especially when they threaten nuclear strikes against the USA.

No more appeasement.

Have you forgotten what a fully armed and operational Japanese Army can do? Go ask China.

Appeasement? Are we sending them money or something in exchange for not attacking us? Standing by idly while they invade parts of the US? I'm really not following why that particular word was chosen.

I'm of the firm belief that if a North Korean missile touches Japan, regardless of the type of warhead on it, that will be "it" for Li'l Kim and his Divine Dictatorship. Someone is going to backhand him, but good.

Wow. Are there any other countries that will shoot down incoming hostile missiles, or is it just Japan?

This is an amazing news story.  It reminds me of the one about how Obama ate a sandwich.

What they should do is launch a strike on their launch facilities.  This would cause much derp from the prc but its a long swim to japan.

Meow- It is similar to the sandwich story because it's pointless filler.

Of course Japan, like every other country with anti-missile systems, will try to shoot down incoming missles. This is about as newsworthy a headline as "MAN EATS SANDWICH".

As a footnote, I am honored to have caught the famous Meow's attention. Do I get some kind of Fark award for that?

For quite a while there, we were sending them free oil and food shipments in exchange for behaving on the nuclear issue.  I don't think we are still doing that, though.  But I agree, they're really not being "appeased" at this point.

We have a mutual defense treaty with Japan, so we'd be justified in putting him down at that point.

On another note, it would be interesting to see how NK reacts if and when Japan shoots down an NK missile in (presumably) international airspace that is heading in the direction of Japan.

This will make colonizing a potential problem, but the awesomeness would be worth it.

They export about $4 billion a year* and the labor in NK is really cheap.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/kn.h t ml

Trade with China represents 57% of North Koreas imports and 42% of exports. **  Stuff from China is really cheap.

**  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_North_Korea

They also have some economic ties with South Korea

I guess we'll have to wait and see.  It  could mean they will shoot down any truly aggressive missile, as any country would... or it  could be an announcement that they plan to thwart the majority of NK's future missile tests... which would be hilarious, and probably justified.  Really depends on how they define a "threatening" missile.

I think that up to now Japan has not shot down N.K. missile that were aimed at the ocean, no matter if it was within territorial or disputed areas.

Exactly.  A lot of the reason China likes NK so much is that they can get away with a lot of shenanigans "under the table" over there, without having to worry about any consequences.  Chinese laws don't apply in NK, and the NK authorities can't afford to stand up to China if Chinese companies break their laws or abuse their workers (not that NK has any real concern for their workers anyway, just sayin'...).

Was gonna say, this is pretty standard actually.  Every time missiles are predicted, they pass this order, and so far (thankfully) nothing ever has needed to be done.

Israel has their Iron Dome system, but it's a much smaller scale thing (they actually have shot down rockets).

Don't forget though North Korea has a pretty lean, mean army to back up any attacks. Especially lean, since their soldiers live on probably 30 calories a day.

You heard the word som

Unimpressed Man: Deep Contact: When is China going to take over NK?

If they did, it would no longer be a "buffer State", it would be "China". It would also be "their problem".

No one with half a brain thinks that NK is a buffer state. It is China's problem. The reason they don't let them fall is because if all those refugees are gonna head to China, heading south would be suicide.

There is a very delicate balance going on. China can't control the DPRK, they are a huge headache. China doesn't need a buffer state because nobody is trying to run outta China.

If someone has a good way to solve the NK problem, I would love to hear it. There is no easy way about this.

Its a band aid nobody wants to pull off.

rockforever: No one with half a brain thinks that NK is a buffer state.

I'm trying very hard to figure out how to politely tell you that you have absolutely no idea what the fark you are talking about.  The only reason North Korea exists  at all, is for the purpose of being a buffer state for China.  The United Nations was handily winning the Korean War until China (and the USSR) threw their support behind North Korea, to keep Democracy/Capitalism off their Communist borders.

Read a history book some time, and try to keep your mouth from spouting such ignorance.  Thanks.
