200,000 hippies, listening to the Eagles, drinking shiatty 70s-era beer, eating flavorless shiatty 70s-era food, chain smoking cigarettes and bad 70s ditch weed, talking earnestly about communism as though it were a viable thing, passing STDs as though they WEREN'T a viable thing...

Man, the 70s sucked. And Boomers' music sucked. And their festivals sucked. Jesus, I'm glad things improved.

It was horrible. The Eagles were the only good band around, Olympia was the only beer available, people were getting severe burns trying to eat from fondue pots with their bare hands, and the weed was so bad we had to chain smoke 25 cent a pack cigarettes just to get a buzz. Didn't worry about STDs too much though. It was really, really tough getting laid in the 70s. And don't get me started about Nixon.

We finally cracked down on open pot smoking and got girls to put a bra on instead of wearing those unsightly halter tops. Plus we got the price of gas to where those losers can't just drive anywhere to listen to their degenerate music. Did the same with college tuition - keeps the riff raff out.

I would have been jazzed about Black Sabbath, Black Oak Arkansas, and Earth Wind and Fire.  I guess I'm really into Black.

The Eagles set would have been naptime.

Also watching Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple freak the fark out would have been worth the price of admission.

They also learned to be really brittle and defensive, especially when someone points out that braless boobs in public look trashy and massive bushes of pubic hair are revolting. :p

Don't forget the cocaine, although that was a tad later in the decade. It was all a horrible nightmare, it really was.

/Not really. The 70s kicked ass.

After the '60s, the '70s were inevitable.  And they were a precursor to the '80s.

Didn't Bob Welch play there? There's a cool video of him and Stevie Nicks doing "Ebony Eyes." I'm thinking it was at Cal Jam.

Cal Jam and The US Festival were the height of American Festival concerts.  Everything since has been corporate pre-packaged pablum for posers.

Bob Welch did the 2nd Cal Jam in 1978. I think Ted Nugent headlined that one.
