SpacemanSpoof: Then there are the different effects that different teas have: High-caffeine black teas like Earl Grey are good for waking up; soothing teas like chamomile or valerian help you sleep; anise-based teas are good for stomachaches; hierba luisa (lemon verbena) helps with menstrual pain; coca helps prevent altitude sickness; the list goes on... compared to that, coffee is pretty much a one-trick pony.
r1niceboy: If Americans like tea so much, why can't I get boiling water at a restaurant in order to get the flavour out of a teabag? I don't want to spend twenty minutes dunking a teabag when boiling water would get all the tanniny goodness out in 30 seconds.
my herniated disc: DontMakeMeComeBackThere: For the record: Pu'erh tea tastes like you took a handful of the hay from the bottom of a hamsters cage and squeezed it into a cup.if the pu'erh tastes or smells like that it is likely of the very lowest quality.I've never found decent pu'erh outside chinatown. It either tastes like rotten dirt or its really bland.
Ker_Thwap: Tea's generally pretty good for you, but black tea does stain the teeth pretty aggressively.
ruta: The women I saw at a recent get-together passing around tins of David's Tea and gushing about the smell and taste were the last people I would call "hipsters". Doctor Oz or Oprah or somebody must have recently endorsed it.Black tea has certainly been around for ages, but I think what has taken off in the last decade is fruited up blends with some tea leaves somewhere in the mix. David's Tea, from what I can see/smell, isn't so much "tea" as "potpourri".
