trappedspirit: Why did they not point out to the officer that the origin of that complaint was a ne'er-do-well which invalidated the whole thing?
BumpInTheNight: Clearly the answer is to make it illegal to be homeless.
Hiro-ACiD: BumpInTheNight: Clearly the answer is to make it illegal to be homeless.FTA: Under the city code, visitors to parks cannot "sleep or protractedly lounge" on seats, benches or other areas.Looks like they've already got that covered, so the homeless problem will clear up any day now.
Knight without armor: Makes me want to go to this town and give all the homeless people cellphones to call in these complaints to the police. The complainant did the right thing, the police officer handled it well. And if the dad knew and cared anything about living in a democratic republic with a slew of rights (still remaining), he'd take his whiny ass and kids to his local elected officials and let them know how their stupid legislation "ruined the whole thing" and how he is not going to voted for them, and is going to write a check to each of their opponents, if they don't fix the stupid law.Stupid legislation is stupid.
KierzanDax: BWAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA!<Gasp>BWAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA!Someone needs to find that homeless dude and buy him a steak dinner.
Tillmaster: I wish we had something similar, to stop schmucks lying on the picnic tables at the beach. Idiots work out and then relax by draping their sweaty bodies on the surface where I intend to lay out food.
Dahnkster: My home town here in shiatkickastan. Our local leaders are trying to discourage the homeless from panhandling, lounging in parks, and existing. In their 'wisdom' they have enacted laws that make it nearly impossible for the local churches, charitable groups and homeless agencies to provide shelter and bedding for those living on the streets. Ridiculous and unwarranted inspections of churches, requirements of bureaucratic licensing and a whole new set of laws aimed at making it difficult to provide basic services to the homeless population. The latest plan is to make it illegal for the homeless to lay down or rest in public parks (which are patrolled and closed during evening hours)Look, I understand nobody wants to explain homeless people when walking the dogs or taking the kids to the park. The general mindset here among all the 'conservative Christians' is that homeless people are lazy and shiftless. This same newspaper, polled their readership and over 70% believe President Fartbongo is not a US citizen .They vote 88% GOP but the local government has been plagued with corruption in the county commissioner's office, the tax collector's office and the sheriff's office. The former Florida speaker of the house ,Ray Sansom was from here and was caught red-handed trying to build a multimillion dollar private airplane hangar for a well-connected local developer and disguising the project as a public-funded hurricane and emergency center. Rather than spending a day in jail, he is now employed by our private, corporate-owned boys detention center as an administrator. The city of Destin worked to have a private corporation (Waste Management) placed permanently on non ad valorem tax rolls with legislation that was penned by ALEC.Reading the opinion pages, 'Spout Off' and editorial section of this paper, is akin to Stormfront and World Net Daily giving birth to a retarded. cephalic devil-baby. The hatred seethes through each crayon-scribbled tome. All dreaming and yearni ...
MylesHeartVodak: The officer should have identified the complainant, tased the shiat out of him and arrested him for making nuisance 911 calls.A family lounging and at play in a park are not "lying down for protracted periods."

Mr. Right: In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets, and steal loaves of bread. - [Anatole France]
Mister Peejay: Tillmaster: I wish we had something similar, to stop schmucks lying on the picnic tables at the beach. Idiots work out and then relax by draping their sweaty bodies on the surface where I intend to lay out food.Cayenne powder is good for sterilizing picnic tables. You should put on some gloves and liberally spread/rub cayenne powder on the picnic table you intend on using.
Fark_Guy_Rob: And this is why we can't have nice things.Same story around here. Nice, big, beautiful park is open to the public. And it is filled with homeless, drug users, and gangs. So the city adds a bunch of laws to regulate the park. The park has opening and closing hours (which are ignored by everyone it's intended to keep from aggregating at the park at night). They passed more laws about laying down/sleeping to try and stop the homeless who call the park home. The rub is, the homeless people don't give a f***. What are you going to do? Confront them....and they'll stab you. Call the police....they might show up....but they aren't going to do much beyond hassle the guy. If I'm homeless do I care if a cop is going to write me a citation? Nope. I wouldn't even care too much if they arrested me. Pretty much all the same to me. You can either let me sleep in the park, or you can pay for my health care, food, entertainment, well being, shelter while I'm in jail.

TheBigJerk: bratface: Does anybody have a 'good' link to the story? The site wouldn't let me in without accepting 3rd party cookies.Nope, I have a link on the Daily Paul and various other sites but they all link back to the same news. It *is* a local news story, after all.Funny how many of the people on some of those sites call for Final Solutions to the homeless problem.
lindalouwho: trappedspirit: Why did they not point out to the officer that the origin of that complaint was a ne'er-do-well which invalidated the whole thing?Being homeless does not make a person that, dude.
