116 mph?  I thought lawnmowers had already taken over F1...at least, that's what I heard.

That was a surprisingly shiatty video considering how cool the story was. It just seemed so "bleah".

How many body parts per second? I won't be impressed until I know this.

This is a real land speed record.

Those jet car guys don't count. If your vehicle is a jet, you have to beat the SR-71. If you're a rocket, you have to beat Pluto Express. If you're going over 100 km on a lawnmower that can still cut grass? That's farking awesome.

It happened outside the US?

Grass still wins, as there doesn't seem to be any criteria for blades cut.

Meh, it'd have went a lot faster had they used an inline 4 out of a Honda CBR1000RR instead of the wheezy VTR twin.

I'll get that spot next time then. It's too small to notice with a passing glance or by neighbors, and by the time I next mow the lawn, it will have grown more so I won't be able to overlook and miss it.

I was hoping for the GL1800 engine. You know, for the torque.

At some point it stops being a lawn mower and is really just a small car.

Is it still a lawn mower if its not cutting grass during the record, tho?
I mean, its just a cart with a blade attachment.

Meaningful speed of a lawnmower is measures by how fast it can shave a field.

I'm happy on my kabota and land pride finish mower, mowing the front pasture at 8 mph.

Glad they finally did speed record with it, but Honda put out a way better video last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cQgx2MXhis&feature=player_detailpage

FTFA: Two electric motors on the cutter deck, spinning 3mm steel cutting cable at an incredible 4000rpm ensured the mower passed the cutting grass requirement. The mower can cut grass at around 15mph, more than double the flat-out speed of the original HF2620 from which it is derived.

So not awesome then?

Ah...so the organizations that keep track of such things have updated the rules, eh? No more slapping a lawn mower badge on a V-8 Supercar and setting a new "lawn mower" land speed record. Cool!

I have to admit I think I misread doglover there, as "can cut grass at over 100 kph" rather than what he actually said.

And cutting grass at 15mph is nothing to sneeze at - I do think this is a pretty awesome machine.
