Better Fark than Fox.

DAR

Fark is my only source of news less the local weather channel!

Summary: Fark rocks.

what i want to know is how much is a "healthy dose" of pr0n?

2004-02-04 05:36:53 PM
it'd been less than 15 minutes since the halftime show ended

15 minutes my ass - more like 15 seconds.

Why I pay $5 a month. Drew and crew are the best. I've been a net head for a decade at least and Fark.com gets a view at least once a day. Why? Volume volume volume!

Well and hilarity ensues.

Shhh, it'll get crowded...

Sweet! My link got posted. Nice. Anyway I think the best example of Fark-as-news was on 9/11. Fark was my #1 source for news, other than our local NY1 newschannel. Plus with all of my fellow farkers personal thoughts and feelings thrown into the mix, it had a human element that no straight news site could match.

On Sunday I immediately logged into TotalFark to see if others had glimpsed the janetboob. Sure enough, there were half a dozen threads within a minute or two, and screengrabs not long after. God bless Fark!

2004-02-04 05:52:52 PM
Now if only all these radio and tv people who steal all their material from here, would credit Fark. I don't mean the stories either, but comments, photoshops, and audio edits as well.

Drew

How many TF'ers are there???

2004-02-04 05:59:02 PM
I've wondered that myself rawsta, how many are there, Drew?

2004-02-04 05:59:09 PM
Hmm, Drew, this could be the next evolution of fark.

Farker wire

I mean, we've got thousands of users, when a newsworthy event happens in someones town, they should run out and take pictures of said event. Then distribute pics via fark.

The Associated Press better watch it's ass.

Good idea, I have to check to see if my town has a farmers market.

And set up some sort of licensing scheme for those photos, for fun and profit.

How much money does the AP get for all of these news folks to use their pictures. I'm tired of seeing articles with the same pics over and over again. I think farkers could give a very different photo perspective.

2004-02-04 06:21:18 PM
The real issue here is when can Drew cash in?

2004-02-04 06:35:43 PM
hmm... "This is your local newswoman Rosalea signing off"......sounds good. Where can I get a press pass? I want to be part of the future of news. Too bad nothing interesting happens where I spend my days. Well nothing interesting that my NDA will allow me to talk about.

2004-02-04 06:36:11 PM
I logged on about 5 or so minutes after it happened curious about the aftermath. Lo and behold pictures were waiting for me and then I "Beheld the power of Fark".
Amazing

"This is FARK Senior Political Analyst Calmamity here in ... where the situation is neither calm, nor friendly..."

That does have a ring to it.

needs more cowbell

Without fail, Fark.com is the first place I go to when I need to get the skinny on anything. The newsflashes here are 10x faster than you get on any other website.

The admins to FARK also do a superb job maintaining the site and keeping threads on topic. While some may b*tch about being banned or not getting their article submitted, I think everyone recognizes that the admins' touch in selecting and controlling content has set FARK apart from other sites. If AICN or others followed the same policies, their sites would be worth turning to.

More importantly, FARK is what it is because of its reader-contributors. Stories are funny/relevant/interesting solely because of its readership. Everyone can submit an article, survey or question, and everyone can have his say. I have read some of the most insightful posts here, and some analysis of news stories by posters is FAR better than analysis I get out of my local rag. And my local rag happens to be the Washington Post, for the love of baby Jesus.

Finally, FARK stands out as the clear favorite of many because everyone can participate in humorous and/or serious discussions, and some posters have earned my respect and laughter with their postings.

I know this is a big ass-kiss, but FARK deserves it. It easily beats out other sites by a wide margin in my opinion. And I just thought this would be an appropriate time to thank the admins and everyone who posts. Thanks for making my days better.

Oh, sorry...
This is TotalFarker Lars Thorwald, account number 74295 reporting live from Washington. Back to you, Jim and Lisa.

Fark is very quick, I think, because there are thousands of Farkers who are rabid to get a link approved. A number of times, I've read or seen something, and logged on immediately.

2004-02-04 07:34:16 PM
I only recently found Fark by stumbling across it by accident. Im so jealous of all you Tfers whove been enjoying this for years.
Fark is the best for getting a very-up-to-date daily news fix and some great humor too.

The whole "kitten" caboodle is the best darn thing to happen to my computer since Pentium was invented.

But I really hope it doesn't get crowded. My fellow TFers are what keep it real. "Holla at ya boyz!"

Look out the window, folks. Back to you, Drew.

So, assuming everyone has two accounts. That makes for 66,597 farkers and farkettes.

Yay Fark!!

#1 time killer at work and when I get home I feel like an f'n crackhead because I log on within an hour or two and spend more time on. Guaranteed to be interesting at the least, and some Farkers are seriously farking funny.

2004-02-04 08:05:41 PM
Its not news, its Fark.

This is the absolute best source for news, totalfark that is.

2004-02-04 08:09:06 PM
I thought about getting two accounts, but then figured... why, no one knows who I am now. I would guesstimate there are 4,500 paying TotalFarkers out of 111,000 unique Farkers. Not that big if you consider the whole picture.

Reporting live from the field, I am TheRealist.

Jon?

2004-02-04 08:14:36 PM
C'mon Drew? HPZ? how many?

2004-02-04 08:53:13 PM
That makes for 66,597 farkers and farkettes.

Oh pleeeeeease Drew....how close is lordargent's estimate?

I'm more concerned with the quality of the membership than the quantity. There are a lot of really good, bright people with diverse backgrounds and opinions here. You don't find that in many places.

#1 reason I Fark? I want to see what happens next.

Good evening. Welcome to the 9:20 o'clock news. I'm your anchorman HPZ. Drew Curtis is out getting plastered.

I don't know exactly how many TotalFarkers there are. One thing I'm always surprised by is how many of them there are that NEVER post in the forums. All they do is read TF and submit the occasional article.

2004-02-04 09:35:52 PM
So, assuming everyone has two accounts. That makes for 66,597 farkers and farkettes.

well two comments. First off are you gonna tell us what your second account is? ;)

and if I'm anything to go by then the typical farker has 4 accounts not two.

2004-02-04 09:40:07 PM
One thing I'm always surprised by is how many of them there are that NEVER post in the forums. All they do is read TF and submit the occasional article.

I'm surprised by that too. That doesn't sound like any fun at all.

2004-02-04 09:50:03 PM
I never bothered getting a second account. If you get banned, you're banned on all of your accounts.
I don't feel the need to vote for myself in the contests, as votes don't really matter to me. I'll spend 4 hours, doing a 1 minute Audio Edit, and win with 6 votes, yet spend 5 minutes photoshopping, and get 80 votes, it's all good. I also don't feel the need for another name to hide behind, when I'm gonna say something stupid.

2004-02-04 09:51:02 PM
I, for one, welcome our new Fark overlords.

2004-02-04 09:57:47 PM
It would be pretty cool without the stupid user comments.

2004-02-04 10:02:57 PM
I gotta be honest, on 9/11, I learned about the WTC attack from Fark. I also got a lot of my info that day from the posts in the threads. If that's not news, I don't know what is.

2004-02-04 10:04:06 PM
...incestuous user comments

Whatcha talkin' about, mutherfarker?

2004-02-04 10:05:55 PM
Shhh, it'll get crowded...

people were saying that when i first got an account

2004-02-04 10:06:39 PM
I must say, I too was impressed with the speed of Fark's Janet-Jackson-partial-boobie-reveal coverage. To echo EatHam's comment, it was WAY LESS than 15 minutes.

2004-02-04 10:06:46 PM
a deranged mix of quirky news-article links, hilarious Photoshop antics, incestuous user comments, and a healthy dose of porn

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

2004-02-04 10:07:45 PM
The mods never pick my articles.

Seriously. Not ONCE have I posted on Fark while having sex with family members. Afterward maybe.

2004-02-04 10:09:40 PM
Well if Adrian Holovaty of Lawrence, Kansas said it then I'm sold!

2004-02-04 10:10:41 PM
Having a big ol' circle fark, are we? Oh, that's right -- we're "incestuous" here. Carry on...
