(NBC News)   "Techni-Quarks" may lurk inside the Higgs-Boson particle, running a holosuite and staying one step ahead of the crusty old shapeshifting constable   (nbcnews.com ) divider line

"The question is, then, why the Higgs' measured mass is so much lighter than the Planck mass?"

That's *exactly* what I've been wondering.

My worry is that the Plank might leave splinters if you try to break it down. (sorry)

Sounds like someone trying to justify their job now that there are no particles left to find in the Standard Model.

FTA:  ...the Planck mass, which is the fundamental unit of mass in the system of Planck units, equal to 2.18 × 108 kilograms.

I think something got lost in a cut and paste somewhere... (Or my browser does not display 2.18 × 10-8 kilograms in the font they use.)

Heh!... It's NBC, so it's actually a superposition of both, and not at all.

We just need to build bigger accelerators.  Even it it doesn't find anything, it will create some construction jobs!

So, what if smaller and smaller particles are just infinite? What if Mass is just made of infinitely small particles getting infinitely smaller.

I was going to say something like this, too.
My mind can't comprehend an object that isn't comprised of other objects.
But, Quantum mechanics is far, far, far above my understanding so I guess I'll let the geniuses do their stuff and I'll go along with it.

The neat thing about the Higgs Boson is that it really is made up of itself. When you cut it, it folds out on itself and reforms, like an inside out ball.

Theories have long predicted the existence of even smaller particles that might make up the Higgs,

But then what are THOSE particles made of? And what are THOSE particles made of? Do we just keep going until we get to God at the very beginning rolling an infinite-sided die? And when who created God? And then who created THAT GUY?

The secrets of the Universe are like one gigantic Mandelbrot set -- turtles all the way down.

Totally. I remember when all those priests verified the existence of God via objective and repeatable experimentation, that was a cool Sunday.

I'm gonna be a really happy nerd when they start putting out DS9 on Blu-Ray. And you know they're going to. They've already convinced me to re-buy all of TNG in high-def.

Repeatable by who? Who else has the toys to verify their finding but them? Reminds me of the Jews and their holiest of holies. Sure, we have proof of God in there but we can't show you. But here, look at the notes we took on these here scrolls and tablets.

Remember how they feared this thing would destroy the Earth?  We may actually accomplish that given enough time and curiosity.

Can't use Washu-chans. The LHC needs to install a technicolor camera, and she doesn't have a technicolor palette.

I think the plural is Higgs-Boffalo.
