AngryDragon: wildcardjack: I heard about Detroit going out and turning off water to delinquent customers. As in a third of the city. I figure most of those delinquents are abandoned, so it's just as well because the only water is being used by druggies and leaks.

It's a city where everyone needs to relocate to one area, then knock down the empty. Then they won't have to spread coverage as much. Can't attract new companies when the housing is all run-down mid-century line worker, and you can't get people to build the new interspersed with the abandoned.

Urban renewal's a biatch.

It has been discussed.  Apparently this idea is racist, or some such bullshiat.

The problem is the same problem whenever you try to take people's houses from them-some people have a problem with this, because "it's not a house, it's a home".  See the controversy over eminent domain and Kelo v. City of New London for another example of this.

Muta: The Heidelberg houses look like crap IMO.  Even if you like the "art" they're still nothing but abandoned houses that attract drugs addicts.  If I had a Heidelberg house on my street there would be a good chance that it might inexplicable catch fire too.

Yeah, drugs addicts like hanging around tourist destinations.

Her Fapplewhite: There's a rumor floating around that it might be an inside job. Tyree and his wife have done VERY well for themselves with this project, and he owned several of the houses outright, IIRC. I remember reading that the insurance payments from the project's houses were nothing to sneeze at, either.

I miss the Heidelberg project, personally. Haven't been there in 5 years. Won't get the chance anymore...

Yeah... Hoping that isn't the case.

Gulper Eel: Gentoolive: Detroit is a perfect example of liberals in charge.

5/10.

It's an example of crooks and race-pimps in charge.

Nary a difference to Gentoolive.

The whole thing started out as, basically, a letter that said, "Dear City, get off your arses and clean this shiat up!"

It worked. Sort of.

Too many bad actors in Detroit to make anything of the city. A couple days ago a kid in Detroit stepped out into the street without looking and was hit by a pickup truck. The driver stopped and go out to check on the kid. For doing the right thing a mob came out and beat him close to death, as well as stealing his wallet.

Yeah, I heard about that. Farking terrible.
