Carlos Tavarez, 30, was arrested Wednesday after Port Authority cops set up a sting at Newark Airport.

Not really much of a sting.

He sounds as dumb as a bag of bricks.  I'm surprised he didn't tell the car rental company that he had left his drugs in the car.

I'm sure he was about to face some pretty severe penalties from the person he was transporting that heroin from.  Given the two options, I'd take my chances with that story and our legal system.

When I was in high school I worked at a car rental agency.   Some group of foreigners left a case with about 50 cd's in a rental.   For whatever reason they never called about them.   It was a pretty epic collection too,  I still have them.

haha, I'm usually on the losing end of that race.

The only better plan I could imagine would be to somehow convince the rental agency to rent you that exact car again, but in a way that doesn't sound weird.  So basically, I got nothing.

How do you forget you have 250 bags of heroin?

I'm guessing because heroin.

SquiggsIN: Well, I don't blame him for trying to get them back.  Losing that much of someone else's product is quite likely a death sentence in his line of work.

$2500?

So the whole farking point of renting the car in the first place was to go get the heroin delivery, and he farks that up? On the other hand, the cops that made the bust must be on cloud 9. Easiest paperwork to write up. The whole report should be "Stupid criminal falls into our lap."

Cockamamie. They said cockamamie.

I work in car rental and I found someone's weed grinder in a car once (with weed in it, too).  She actually called about it.  We gave it back to her.  She apologized for the hassle because she knew we could get in trouble for just having the thing (my boss went "DON'T BRING THAT IN HERE!" when I took it into the office).

Apparently an Eisenhower dollar coin makes a good weight for use inside a weed grinder.  It's about the right size.

/we should start minting those again.

Drug dealers have been known to kill for less. Sometimes it isn't about the amount of money, it is about instilling fear in people and letting them know that farking around with any of their money won't be tolerated.

But what kind of dumbass forgets to grab the drugs from the place in the car where he hid them? He was completely forgetting the point of the trip.

Roommate of mine in NC worked at a hotel. Some guest one day left a DVD binder with around 50 DVDs in it in his room when he checked out.

Yes, all porn. Some pretty sick shiat in that collection too.

Only users lose drugs.

SquiggsIN: I saw 250 bags and assumed a much bigger value than $10/bag.

No, a $10 baggie is the common amount on the street at the moment.  It isn't much, a fraction of an ounce, and serious addicts can go through a dozens baggies a day.

But heroin's a lot more common these days than it's ever been and there are a lot more people hooked.

The reason?  It's a cheaper alternative to Oxy.

In college, in 1971, one of my fraternity bros left a paper bag with 27 ounces of pretty good mexican in the library; he went back and found the bag in the lost and found with 26 bags of weed in it.  Hard to believe someone was that honest and only took 1 for the reward.

I found  a roach in the last car I rented. Not the bug. Whomever had the car before me must've hot boxed from Florida to New York, because when I turned on the heater, I swear I caught a buzz. (Not really but it did stink a whole farking lot.) It scared the hell out of me actually because had I been pulled over, I could have ended up with a colonoscopy. It was that obvious.

Dammit clean out your cars better, Hertz.

SquiggsIN: Funny that for that much stuff his bail was $150g.

His bail was 150 grams?  Grams of what?  $150 per gram?  I'm having some trouble here.

i must have skimmed over the $2500 value part of the article.  Funny that for that much stuff his bail was $150g.
I don't know anything about heroin but, I saw 250 bags and assumed a much bigger value than $10/bag.

I asked someone the amount in a bag and how heroin works and was surprised as well.  He said that 10 bags are in a bundle, I believe 50 bags in a brick, in which 1 bag contains about a line, or shot which is around 1/10th of a gram.  So this dude had less than an ounce. If they wanted to screw him, I will assume that could of let him get on the plane with it and snag him on federal trafficking charges.  The fact that he had it broken up, makes things worse.

in Jersey that quantity is like $1000 or less. bags might cost $10 if you buy one, but the price drops very quickly as the amounts increase. a bundle is $60 here, and this ain't Newark.
