(Today)   Boomer Esiason rips Mets 2B Daniel Murphy for missing three games to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. Esiason helpfully adds, "Quite frankly I would've said, 'C-section before the season starts. I need to be at Opening Day'"   (today.com) divider line 155

"Quite frankly I would've said 'C-section before the season starts. I need to be at opening day. I'm sorry, this is what makes our money, this is how we're going to live our life, this is going to give our child every opportunity to be a success in life. I'll be able to afford any college I want to send my kid to because I'm a baseball player,'" Esiason said Wednesday on his daily morning radio show, "Boomer and Carton."

Yeah, Boomer, way to tell that GOLDDIGGER. Dumb b*tch probably got pregnant on purpose. Man makes the money, man gets to tell you when to have elective surgery.

I love the weird rage people get when ballplayers take a day or two off for a perfectly good reason. Next time Boomer takes a vacation or takes a day off to hang with his sick kid or something, his fill-in should blast him on air for being a lazy bum.

She's obviously a manipulative AW and gave birth on Opening Day on purpose.

Daniel Murphy's job is to provide entertainment for his/Mets/baseball fans by exhibiting his world-class skills on stage. My job is to engineer software for the government. Both of us have an equal right to take a few days off to be with our wives during the births of our children. No idea what crawled up Esiason's ass about that.

2014-04-03 01:34:17 PM
He missed the equivalent of one quarter in football.  For the birth of his child.

2014-04-03 01:35:05 PM
I might agree with them but it's just baseball, for chrissakes. In the NFL they might have had a point

2014-04-03 01:35:59 PM
It sort of makes sense if you're used to dealing with a football schedule. Missing even 1 game could potentially be costly. But missing 3 out of 162 games is a drop in the bucket.

I saw an HBO special about him and his sick kid, and thought it was pretty heart warming and nice, gave me a sense of respect for the guy... but now I see he's fully capable of being a total knob as well.

2014-04-03 01:40:29 PM
Murphy should have not missed those games. The improvement of him starting instead of his backup means that there is a tiny chance that the Mets would have been 67-95 instead of 66-96 at the end of the season.

Birth of first child or play a game for money.  Hmmm.  Yeah, that's a pickle.

Well, I used to like Boomer. What a dick.

This will surely sink the season for the Mets. Thanks a lot, Murphy.

2014-04-03 01:45:15 PM
It's all Murphy's fault.  His wife got pregnant at the all-star break.  If Murphy were an all-star, this wouldn't have happened.

Not that it matters as a mets player. Their season is over by the end of the game.

Is this part satire?

FTFA"I don't know why you need three days off, I'm going to be honest. You see the birth and you get back. What do you do in the first couple days? Maybe you take care of the other kids. Well, you gotta have someone to do that if you're a Major League Baseball player. I'm sorry, but you do ... Your wife doesn't need your help the first couple days, you know that," Francesa said.

I have trouble imagining a world where these phrases were just accepted truths.

As I was pointing out yesterday (re: the Mariners being 3-0), based on a football schedule, he's missing the equivalent of a little more than the first quarter of the first game of the season.

/don't do a c-section, just induce labor
//but really, a stupid thing to say by Boomer

I don't think you guys are taking these games seriously enough. There's only 159 other games! It's practically the postseason!

For the first child, sure, take a few games off.  However, when my sister had her third kid, she told her husband to drop her off at the hospital and then get to his softball game.  Good thing too, we didn't have any subs that night.

Im not coming at Mr. Murphy.
I think he has every right to go, and in his shoes I would do the same and this manufactured outrage by esiason and co,. is ridiculous.

Wrong.  You can tell that it isn't near the post season because people are acting as if the Mets' play matters.

2014-04-03 02:04:25 PM
Why does the number of games even matter? The dude said he would force his wife to have surgery so that he could do a sports thing. He's priorities are farked to an unimaginable degree

Let me have this, man. This may be the greatest single day of Seattle sports fandom I will ever experience. The Seahawks are reigning champions and the Mariners are the best team in baseball.

His employer's cool with it? Then fark you.

I was at the birth of my first niece and nephew (meaning waiting in the waiting room), and my boss gave me the day off (as well as offering another to me so I could "help out", which I declined).

Actually, let me rephrase: fark you twice, NORMAN.

Oh, it's nice.

I just am not going to believe in a world where the Mariners and Astros are the undefeated teams in the AL West. They carried their April Fool's Day thing out an extra day, I guess.

This is true, but I'm guessing it's the obsessive mentality that made a lot of athletes successful. They are literally willing to put everything else aside for SPORTS.

2014-04-03 02:17:43 PM
Well Boomer, next time someone wants your brain-damaged opinion on when they should or shouldn't have a possibly life-threatening surgery in order to allow someone to play in a baseball game, then we will ask for it.
