They will not stand for their officers generating positive publicity about the police force.

Beating innocent = keep your job
Groping innocent minors = keep your job
Gunning down multiple unarmed flood victims = keep your job
Rape a woman while on the job = keep your job
Gun down an unarmed pastor *when you're not even a licensed cop* = keep your job
Fire 5 magazines worth of ammo into a vehicle with asian women = keep your job

Dancing ... Fark you, you're fired.
Well at least police have limits.

You're employed to serve and protect, officer, not dance around like a friggin' furriner.  Stupid goddamned decision by stupid goddamned administrators.

To be fair, look at the song. Totally justified

omg
its clear now
he was making money for someone else
no wonder he was fired

So the guy doesnt act like a jackbooted thug for 3 minutes...and he gets fired for it.

Good show.

He was fired for being out of date.

The firing may not have been related to the video.  If it is related, then all I can imagine is that it's for wearing his uniform in a non-official capacity or shooting the video while on duty.

Wow, it seems like the whole department really put some effort into the video. (I love it!)  And one guy gets fired?  That's BS.

"Following Mr Watts' dismissal, Deputy Chief Constable Bill Skelly said: "We expect high standards from our officers and any officer who is thought to have breached these standards can be subject to disciplinary enquiries which can ultimately lead to dismissal."

I wonder if Constable Skelly would mind quoting one or two of the related standards? Publically, I mean.

Fark have me to believe that police in Europe are too wimpy to be cops

Top cops can be mega-aholes. I've known several cops pretty well. One did years of great work for his town, brought in excellent publicity... eventually gets married and he and his wife conceives. So he looks at taking a cushier job in a nice, quiet beach town. Great change of pace for both him and the wife, nice place to raise a kid.

His chief gets wind of it before he even applies, calls the beach-town chief and squashes the whole damn thing. Plus puts him on shiat duty with lots of night work for an indefinite period.

Somehow, he has taken all this gracefully. But if you ever wonder why there are so many a-hole cops: attitudes start at the top.

Even if that is a rule, it's laughable to think that's really what he got fired for, given all the shiat other cops get away with on a daily basis.

Some higher up cop just didn't like him and used that as an excuse.

The only things that might be a problem are the whole dancing on the clock thing (they should be able to claim that they were on their lunch/other break time though), and the view inside the police van thing.  That one might be over the line.  But the first time someone with a camera, smrt phone, or google glass gets in there, then the jig is up (whatever that is).

The original point is that with all the other shiat the thin blue line gets away with, this seems pretty ridiculous and only to serves how corrupt the police are, at least where it considers what is and what isn't a dismiss-able offense.

Good cops make the other cops look bad.

That's what I tell people. In most places no one gets fired for 'breaking the rules'  One place I worked a coworker failed a drug test. My boss refused to fire him despite being ordered by HR and so he stayed.

Bunch of cops do a silly dance for a charity and a few months later one only of them gets canned for bad conduct and Fark thinks the firing was related to the dance.

In the credits it says all police performed "on their own time."  Perhaps performing in uniform violated a rule about comporting oneself while in uniform - or some such rule that is subjective in application.

I don't think anyone here thinks that. Cops are corrupt. You piss one off, they find a way to fire you. It's not rocket science.

Forget it, they're on a roll.

Plus isn't Gangnam Style like 3 years old? He should be doing wrecking ball or something.

I hate to piss on your cornflakes but the firing and the Gangam style video are completely unrelated. The exact allegations are against him have not been revealed, but its nothing to do with a viral dance video.

I already suspected as much since none of the other cops involved seem to have been fired, but thank you for the confirmation.

These guys didn't get in trouble for singing and shooting a video while on duty.

Should have just beaten a suspect. Suspended with pay.
