I'm a fan of a lot of what Besson has done in the past, but from the basic fallacy that we only use 10% of our brain to the giant leap that if we were able to use more we could defy the basic laws of physics, the premise for this movie goes so far past any chance of suspension of disbelief that I don't know if I could actually find any enjoyment in it.

I love Luc Besson. Leon (The Professional) is one of my favorite films.

But this is the guy that gave us Nikita - believability isn't really what he's going for.

Ah yes - Limitless - a movie where Bradley Cooper takes a pill that makes him rich, successful, good looking and able to fark anyone.

Or in other words he takes a pill that turns him into Bradley Cooper.

Even if that was all it took for me to enjoy a movie, there are plenty of others that she is in that aren't predicated on such a moronic premise.

Two things that are guaranteed to make me angry are

1) Did you know we only use 10% of our brain
2) It's a left brain/right brain thing

That being said I think I will watch scarlett running around asskicking while I am on a plane somewhere into the second bottle of claret.

Saying you use ten percent of your brain to think is like saying you use ten percent of your car's motor to drive -- the volume inside the cylinders where combustion takes place.

There's more to a brain than just conscious cognition.

I have FINALLY figured out what I have always thought was off about Scarlett.  I mean, I have ALWAYS thought her bod was hot and I think she is a solid enough actress.

Still, something about her constantly threw me off.

ITS HER TEETH.

HOLY CRAP. It's the "Anna Paquin effect". I mean her whole jawline is a whole tooth off to the right.

Just keep on not smiling and I'll think you are 9/10 hot. When you smile... hey it makes you human and I still think your hot. Just not perfect. I am now totally at peace with this chick and her looks.

So then you have no use for X-Men, Spider-Man, Superman, Star Trek, Star Wars, The Expendables, Tron, and every other unrealistic movie/TV show/comic book, right? In either case, you need to lighten up.

Don't worry, it'll turn out that the whole thing is really just a bad trip caused by the drugs leaking into her stomach.  The reason why there's a neuroscientist claiming we only use 10% of our brain or why she's shooting cars in the gas tank and they're exploding or why she can somehow see into high-end spectrums without having the necessary sense organs or how she can apparently change her hair length and color at will or why any of a billion other stupid movie tropes are happening is because the whole thing is the elaborate hallucination of a drugged-out party girl who knows nothing but bad movies, electronica music, and factually incorrect science soundbites she read off of Facebook.

Of course the movie will soft-shoe/Total Recall it and leave it ambiguous as to whether or not she's evolving into the next state of humanity or is really just in her happy place while she convulses to death shackled to a wall in a Chinese slum, so it'll still go over just fine with the low IQ set.

the term 'brain capacity' is completely meaningless in neurological terms.

Does it mean storage capacity - near infinite
problem solving ability - depends on the problem you're trying to solve

The whole thing is silly. You are using loads of your brain all of the time.

Honestly, I would too if done right.  I brought up Total Recall not just because of the ambiguity but because it's a fairly enjoyable film.  I thought it was just another big dumb action flick for years, but then I bought the DVD on sale and listened to the Director's commentary.  The part I remember most is him talking about how he insisted on a fade to white at the end instead of a fade to black because he wanted the blinding whiteness to signify the Rekall machine frying Quaid's brain.  Somehow that makes the movie even better, don't ask me why.

My way-too-long ramble on SJ ...

Scarlett is an interesting actress. A quick glance at her resume might paint her as a typical, successful Hollywood starlet. Pretty, and can act well enough, etc.

A closer look at her resume shows that in almost everything she has done it has been at least a little different. She gained fame in Ghost World and Lost in Translation. Both non-mainstream and both quite good.

Every actor has a low budget horror and her's was "8-legged Freaks". An intentional B movie which, taking that into account, was actually entertaining. Her rom-coms / romantic dramas were Woody Allen movies. Her one Michael Bay film was actually a pretty good sci-fi/action (The Island).

Now she has carved out a place in the Marvel Universe as a character who looks very fine "suited up" but is actually known for her intelligence and loyalty. Hell, she's the only one to out-smart Loki in an awesome scene.

Recently, between Marvel blockbusters, she does Her, where she is only a voice, and Under the Skin which is a hard art film (hard meaning only for those who appreciate art films).

I've been at two premiers where she has fielded questions from the audience, most recently for Under the Skin. She comfortable, confident and well spoken. She clearly indicated that she (now) only picks movies that challenge her is some way.

So, can she do "super smart"? I personally think she is a much better actress than what 90% of people give her credit for. I am looking forward to this one.
