I think this is the first time I've seen a "supercar wreck" video where the person driving the supercar WASN'T at fault. Unless I'm missing something in the video, it looks like the little wagon is pulling out and making an unsafe right turn?

I think the driver of the Lamborghini was going a bit too fast as well.  There's no excuse for driving that fast on a city street.  People might step out from behind a car, or a door may open.

Alright, granted the Lambo's moving pretty quickly, but in every jurisdiction in Canada, where I'm familiar with the laws, it's the responsibility of the person moving into traffic to ensure it's safe to do so, so the person making the turn is still at fault. Is it different in Britbongistan?

By the sounds of it, the Lambo driver was gunning the crap out of the car, Aventador's aren't that obnoxiously loud if you're driving normally.. He didn't look fast as he braked sharply as the car moved in front of him. Given the relatively spacious nature of the road, under normal circumstances, both cars would have seen each other and the crash could have been averted.

Long story short: moneyed up rich kid trying to impress blonde bit of skirt in the passenger seat nearly kills her instead because of over-compensation

You still haven't seen it not be the supercar driver's fault. Nobody should expect a car to be gunning it flat out on a city street. Had the Lambo driver been driving at a reasonable speed, that accident would not have happened. The Lambo driver had actually been braking by the time of impact, and STILL went airborne.

There's loads of sites and YouTube blogs that follow the supercars in London. It's seasonal, the younger Arabs come over to get away from the heat and bring their trust fund toys.
They don't usually have a licence for the UK and ignore all the rules/laws. Daddy pays the fines, it's a right of passage for them. kinda like Spring Break

Driver of the small shiatty car at fault, end of story. There may have been parked cars blocking his view of such a low car but still he should have been paying attention. loud exhaust doesnt mean fast. Really didnt seem that fast to me... he just had it in a low gear.

Exactly. to lose contact with pavement at normal speed is not normal and to go airborne after slamming on the brakes says Speeding for sure.

I am not sure the lambo "went airborne" so much as it was launched by the wedge of the small car. Right impact, right spot, the lambo climbed over the car.

Kind of the point.... if he was driving "city street speed" his car would have wedged and stopped. Instead, he plowed into it with enough force for his wheels to leave the ground (AKA "airborne").

Compare it to the Mythbuster's recent effort to do the same trick with a truck 6+ times heavier than the Lambo... at 60mph.

It was only "unsafe" because the driver saw a wide-open street to pull out on, and suddenly the Lamborghini came shooting along, and was moving to fast to avoid hitting the eight inches of bumper sticking over the lane line.

The wagon was even pulling into a separate lane.

In Massachusetts it's illegal. You have to park facing the flow of traffic regardless of what side of the street you are on. So it is a little weird to see it when your not use to it.

Yeah, that wouldn't work in the UK. Courtesy of Google, one of the streets in the city I grew up in:

i.imgur.com

And, if you visit that same street in the evening, when everyone's home from work, you're lucky to find space to pass another motorist. You park where you're allowed to and where there's space.

Parallel parking is part of the driving test here, though.

This is not at all a cut and dry fact in Canada. If you turn left in front of oncoming traffic and are struck by a speeding vehicle, the speed of that vehicle and other factors can make it so the speeder holds partial or full liability for the collision. I've reconstructed dozens of collisions where this was the case, including one fatality where the turner was drunk out of their mind and still only held partial liability because the oncoming motorcycle was travelling upwards of 160 km/h (highway collision). If it can be shown that at the point the "target" vehicle made the decision to move into traffic, the "bullet" vehicle was in a position that had it been travelling the speed limit the collision wouldn't have occurred, you can bet liability will be shared at a minimum.

The further away an object is, the harder it is for the mind to judge it's speed as it approaches. The human mind tends to use the angle an object takes up in your field of view and the rate that this angle changes (based on the object's width due to our eye spacing) to determine if an approaching object is coming at a hazardous rate. The minimum rate of change of this angle that's considered a hazard to the brain is called the subtended angular velocity threshold. I used the theory a few times in reconstructions and it was bang on every time I applied it. The angular velocity of the image increases (exponentially iirc) the closer the object is to the observer.

Instead of parallel parking, in Arizona we just have to do 3-point turns. As expected, nobody knows how to drive. It starts to sprinkle outside and everyone's suddenly afraid of losing traction and starting to hydroplane.

In the US (well at least Delaware), a driver (lets say the mini van driver) can legally argue a right to assume the other driver in the oncoming traffic is a far enough distance away and that they are "relatively" obeying the speed limit and therefore make a reasonable decision to pull out.  If the driver of that minivan had looked left and seen the lambo 100 yards off and assumed that given the speed was likely somewhere around 25 to 35 miles per hour they could pull out (disclaimer: I don't know what the speed limit was there but I'm guessing towards the low end.).

I have no idea what that about, yet it was damn awesome, lol.

As stated in other posts, In my world, you have to park following the flow of traffic on streets. Being the US, that means we drive on the right side of the road at all times. That also means you park on that side as well. Guess it's different in the UK.

I had both 3-point turns and parallel parking in my driving test.  Nailed the parallel parking on the first try, without practicing before hand.

That law is enforced in MI as well, but it is interesting when parking in downtown Flint.  We have oneway streets with parking on both sides, so knowing how to parallel park on right and left is necessary.  However, I always get a show from watching a woman totally blow the approach and end up with a parking fail.  One day, I watched a woman try to parallel park a suburban for 10 minutes, she didn't turn the wheel sharp enough.  I drive the same size truck and got it in one swift try.
