Everyone smokes weed here. The cops don't care, as long as you're not an ass. In the pool hall I used to hang out at, we used to get high on second hand smoke, and had to brush Doritos bits off the tables like twice an hour.

With marijuana, the idea is to get so high that you don't know who or what you are. There is no such thing as a quickie or one to be sociable. In pot-smoking circles if you're not flying you're a square. And "flying" means you don't know who you are or what you're doing. No matter how you slice that, that's dangerous.

I don't even smoke weed, and it makes me laugh that its an issue with anyone at all. Its quite simply a plant, who cares what some person does with a plant.

Pot doesn't get people high, people get people high!

A) What does any of that have to do with medical pot?  When trolling, try to stay on topic.
B) Spinning around in circles until you're dizzy is dangerous, too.  You might bump your head.

My uncle grows his own pot, because he has MS.  He physically can't go to a pot store, not that there is one anywhere near Caledon anyway.  Thanks to these new laws, he's now a criminal.

Cops in Canada are pretty random about public pot  smoking.  They'll either ignore you, or tell you to "take it somewhere else", or they'll give you a $500 ticket.  But  growing your own pot, on the other hand, even if for medicinal purposes, cops jump all over that stuff for siezed assets/publicity/increased funding/promotions just like they do in the USA.  NORML got raided all the time.  Same with Toronto Hemp Company.

This whole thing is incredibly lame.

Just legalize it and let people grow it. They are more likely to be harmed by sitting for long periods, not eating enough veggies, and driving.

It is kinda fun to laugh at Canada for being backwards for a bit, especially since CO and WA have gone legal, but this sort of thing is mostly tiresome. Really, there is nothing better to do than bully people for growing a nearly harmless plant?

Hey guys check out this plot of Afghan poppy plants I have.  I'm thinking of drying them out into a powder to spread on foor and stuff.  surely this can't be bad.

I say screw it and just legalize it.  Let the patients who need it get it, and then the stoners will quit justifying and go back to being stoned stoners.  Ultimately the rest of us will be happy.

Actually, you can plant poppies. Most places will not consider it a thing if you have them in your garden - they exist in a grey area of the law, and only if you are obvious about using them to get high, or if the cops in your area are bored, will you see a bust. Michael Pollan wrote a great article on poppies a long time ago:

http://michaelpollan.com/articles-archive/opium-made-easy/

You can dry out the heads for ornamental purposes, and then put them in some hot water and have opium tea. The first step is legal, the second step makes you a felon. Frankly, I think we should encourage people to grow their own drugs - a lot of junkies would do much better if they didn't have to deal with a pusher, and probably wouldn't be doing heroin but rather would smoke raw opium which would eliminate the blood-borne disease issue.

Drugs are part of life and aren't always a bad thing.

Physically capable of growing his own pot but physically incapable of going to the store?
