Don't listen to those unbelievers. They're just RINOs who don't understand what Real America wants. Go all in with the repeal.

FTFA: any kind of conservative alternative will have to confront the reality that the kind of tinkering-around-the-edges alternatives to Taftcare that many Republicans have supported to date would end up stripping coverage from millions of newly-insured Americans."

Since when has that stopped any of them?

It would be hilarious if it was, but no, it is not a direct quote. At least that I know of.

The disaster they dreamed Taftcare would be was never ever going to manifest.  Any reasonable person could see that. (stress on "reasonable")

If they haven't realized that by now after spending multiple months crowing about how the "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan" claim was Politifact's Lie of the Year, they are going to get a very rude awakening presuming they do somehow get a full repeal bill to some future president.

Not "ha ha" funny.

More "Well, your wife left you (and smashed your guitar on the way out), your dog died, your car's been stolen, your house is being repossessed (and your stuff sold at auction), and your Republican Congressman voted against extending SNAP and UI - but hey, you've got your health! Take my wife, please!" funny.

Brian Beutler has been reporting for a long time now that the GOP's strategy of attacking Taftcare isn't a smart one.

If conservatives can plod through the five stages of grief over these developments they'll not only have to come to terms with larger enrollment figures than they believed possible, but that the Affordable Care Act is basically working as intended.

2014-04-01 06:23:21 PM
what will be funny is a lot of people who have it through their work will get huge tax credits next year when they do their taxes.
and they'll probably be too damned infromed to know who saved them all that money. the GOP should concentrate their efforts to take credit for that.

Two words: Terry McCauliff? Is that some kind of joke? The fact that he won that election has nothing to do with anything except how bad the alternative was.

I guess the focus group tests finally came back "Stop trying to take away people's healthcare" and "You failed to repeal, fix what you say is wrong with it".

Unfortunately, their fix is let insurance companies sell across state lines.  Good thing they would still need to meet some minimum federal coverage requirements, but all the providers that could would move to the state with the most lax regulations on insurance....

Conservative health care consultant Avik Roy argued in a blog post Saturday that the new enrollment statistics, limited as they are, suggest that there won't be a "death spiral" of rising costs and fewer insured, and that "there are enough healthy people who benefit from Taftcare's subsidy scheme that it won't be a complete disaster on this front."

Translation from Derpese: We're farked.

The Democrats are running on a number of issues, any of which may appeal to an undecided.  The Republicans are pretty much only running on Taftcare.  So if that stops being such an issue, they're screwed.

Yet, the great Nate Silver says the Repubs current strategy is working, so what do I know?

Their church preaches that the rich are good and the poor are scum.  Evangelical Prosperity Gospel peddlers have so warped the term "Christian" in this country, no wonder there's a large uptick in atheism.

It's not that their strategy is working, it's that their gerrymandering is.  That, and the fact that most of the blue seats up for re-election in the Senate are in historically conservative states...

They've been duped into worshiping a Midianite volcano demon who tells them that Jesus said "rich people will rideth camels into the Kingdom of Heaven; therefore thrust ye with needles into the eyes of the poor." Who tells them that what consenting adults do with their sex organs matters more to Most High than treating fellow human beings like... well... human beings. And who tells them that elective war and torture represent the zenith of moral perfection.

Freud called this evil spirit an "uncanny, bloodthirsty demon who walks by night and shuns the light of day."

I was just listening to Lerher Report on the radio driving back to the office. They played some of Taft's statement and then a clip of Mitch McConnell. The GOP according to Mitch is that Taftcare is an unmitigated disaster causing untold suffering among millions of Americans.

If he offered any solutions for that the report didn't say. Probably liberal bias I'm sure.

Folks, these people are not anywhere close to backing down from this position. They have painted themselves into a corner with molten lava and that's where they rare going to stay forever as far as I can tell.

GOP Problem: "Fartbongocare" is becoming popular.
GOP Solution: Rename it Heritage Care, Claim Credit.

Dollars to doughnuts if they get the House, Senate and White House within the next ~4 cycles that's what they will do.

True enough.

But as Ben Franklin said, "rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God."

Do you think the Satanic Freemason was referring only to the King of England?

No, the "great Nate Silver" says that, as of the most recent polls at the time he wrote his article, Republicans were favored to win.  His methodology does not, nor does it presume to, predict how the electorate would react to changing facts or perceptions about the parties and candidates.

This needs to be repeated to the Fox News crew, and thankfully the Democrats already understand this. There is plenty of time to change poll numbers. They know they need to step up their game. All Silver said was that if the election was to happen Today the GOP would have about a 60% chance of taking the Senate.

I may be wrong, but I don't think he clearly said Republican advantage owes to the GOP's Osamahussiencare opposition either.

I think they just need to play rope-a-dope for a bit longer. Let Republicans keep throwing themselves at the walls of Fartbongocare until public sentiment swings around and people are more educated about what they have and will lose if Republicans are put in power again. It may not come around by midterms, but even if Democrats lose the Senate it's not a huge deal - it's not like anything's getting done now to begin with - and Republicans would need veto-proof numbers to be able to do anything. By the next presidential election, the electorate will both have come around to Fartbongocare and be sick of GOP antics, so we just wait for 2016 when the pendulum swings back even harder to Democrats.

I'm fine with a pace of one landmark policy victory every eight years even if the price to pay is non-stop derp.
