Watching the Rifftrax of the first Twilight movie is one of my fondest memories. Holy cow that was a good time.

The Rifftrax for 300 is still better, though.

At 8pm tonight on NatGeo, the Rifftrax guys have three back-to-back specials called "Total Riff Off", where they comment on animal videos. All better shot, edited and acted than anything in the Twilight series.

Does that even include the first Twilight's "Badger Cam" scene?

I'm still mad at myself for missing that.  I didn't find out about it until 3 days after they did it.

My favorite Rifftrax is a tie between Twilight and Batman and Robin.  My friend was staying with us and she and I spent the night watching them and laughing until we cried.

I'm really enjoying the Batman and Robin serials that they've been doing lately.  Of course, all of the live events I've been too have been outstanding.

Kind of mixed feelings about the next live outing being Sharknado, though.  I'm sure it will be good, but it just seems like that joke's been done to death.  There's plenty of untouched movies to choose from.

But not many movies with a sequel coming out soon afterward.

As much as I love Rifftrax, I understand that most movie makers don't feel the same way.  That's why the VOD downloads are limited to absolute stinkers where the studio says, you know, I don't care if we let copyright lapse on that POS.  If you want to do that with a newer movie, especially riffing it live?  You need a studio with a sense of humor about itself, and for all the bad things you could say about The Asylum, they're definitely self-deprecating in what they do and put out.

During the Reddit AMA they also addressed why they haven't done as many mp3 riffs to play along with newer DVDs:  they've been taking a loss on most of those.  The VODs are on less-popular movies, but the price means they make a profit on those rather quickly.

The Candy Lion short alone would have been worth the price of admission, IMHO.

One of my favorite bits from today's Reddit AMA was that Kevin wanted to riff Titanic just for the line he delivers as the captain leaves port: "I'm gonna sink this biatch."

Came for this, leaving satisfied.

I forgot about that Candy Lion short. I wish that would go on sale on their site!

And just to jump into the fray, I have dozens and dozens of Rifftrax movies, and I enjoy them all, but a few stick out from the rest. There are the obvious ones like the Room, Guy From Harlem and Birdemic, but <cough> Karate Kid 3 <cough>

It occurred to me once that I've spent more money on rifftrax.com than any other web site, not including Amazon.

It wouldn't surprise me if the producers were sponsoring that; they seem to be doing all sorts of things to promote the sequel.

DVDA: I have a friend who works in film/TV in New York.  She usually can't talk about the project she's working on, but she was actively encouraged to post to social media from the set of Sharknado 2.

Kind of low-hanging fruit, but yeah.  That's basically how my family watched the movies, my siblings and I would go to the theater and just talk through the films making fun of everything.  Pretty fun.

It wouldn't work with studio execs. But there could be some gold there.

Is Super Mario Bros not a good riff?  I saw it posted and was debating getting it.  I figured it would be pretty good fodder for riffing.

The riff was great, but it's still not easy to sit through such a bad movie, especially with Leguizamo running his yapper nonstop.

My friend and I do this. We went to see Jennifer's Body and I made fun of it so much. I had the whole theater laughing. But that movie was so easy to riff. But it game me my monies worth when the emo kid gets killed in the house being built. Had way to much fun with that scene.

Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny is the worst 'movie' that either Rifftrax or MST ever did. It was only watchable in the car-wreck sense. I couldn't look away.

I'm actually a little surprised that a few companies haven't asked the RiffTrax crew to make an audiotrack for the official DVDs. I imagine that this would boost the sales of many, many DVDs out there. Or, if they wanted to go that way, offer digital downloads of the movie with the track synched to it. They'd still lose money to people torrenting stuff, but many would still pay because they'd want to ensure that the RT stuff keeps coming.
