People are making too big of a deal about going into Iraq, they obviously had WMDs and it's going to be over soon. I mean it's not like we'll be there for a decade or anything.

Someone refresh my memory.  Was Generalissimo Francisco Franco alive back in 2004?

I remember when this happened, and all the left-wingers on Fark were taunting the right-wingers about it saying stuff like, "Yeah, it's amazing when the government actually does what it's people want it to."  And none of us less-than-maniacal-about-politics people could escape it because there was not Politics tab.

It was only a few months later when America decided it wanted to retain the services of George W. Bush.  It was the happiest day I ever had on Fark, not because I liked Bush (I most certainly didn't) or hated Kerry (didn't really), but because there was nobody I hated more than the people on Fark who made every single post and thread about how bad Bush/America was.

I spent a good hour throwing the "Yeah, it's amazing when the government actually does what it's people want it to just like in Spain" at maniacal lefties.  Naturally they didn't think it was so amazing this time.

What's the point of this story?  That the Politics tab is a spiffy thing indeed.  It means I never feel the need to feel happy about incompetent President being elected just so I cant taunt people about it ever again.

If all the articles weren't from 2004, I would have expected December 2008.

Ah, the days when we actually had positive expectations of Taftbama.

And now that there's been a Socialist government elected, the economy in Spain is in good hands.

I wanted to make it feel more like a genuine Fark circa 2004.

I actually lost a lot of respect for Spain after this, for pretty much the reason this expressed by this Polish guy:

"'Revising our positions on Iraq after terrorist attacks would be to admit that terrorists are stronger and that they are right,' Mr Miller told reporters in Tarnow."

Like, principled withdrawal based on objections about how the war was started/conducted?  Ok, sure, no problem.  Running away because some terrorist bombs your country?

1) That's a weak-ass move
2) That's only going to encourage the bastards

Hm, was BBC really this over-represented on Fark in 2004, or does it just have more working links that old?
