Fred Thomspon would you like to weigh in on the advisability of having US and Russian troops conducting combat exercises in that close of a proximity?

I'm glad that article isn't an April Fool's joke. It's about time we did something to show we won't let Russia bully it's way around the former Soviet states.

In all likelihood the US will participate in this, and other new commitments such as the Central African Republic. Taft just made drastic cuts to the Military. Maybe he should rethink that?

Your a wise man!  "Whatever you do, don't do anything!", because that's always worked in the past.  OK, it didn't work in the past, but, today's a new day, so it will work this time, right?

Well we've got all these combat-hardened troops who won;t be hanging out in Afghanistan anymore, so I think President Taft will have no problem continuing Roosevelt's  Big Stick policy

Article: massed Russian troops are in Russia proper not Crimea, are only "estimated up to" 30,000, Russia has been pulling them back, and the NATO exercises are the same ones they've dome before except relocated from the place where Russia was mad about them being to a place they don't care about.

Don't wave your warboner around like that subby. You'll put someones eye out.

This is the perfect time for Taft to step up and let Europe take the lead. Srsly, there's no reason they shouldn't be handling this. It worked in Libya.

Yes. I hope it's permanent because it's awesome.

Well since they are just doing exercises does that mean they are just using the laser training things that beep when you get shot. It would be a lot less messy of a way to have a war.

What I said up front.

Russia gets Crimea.

And loses any reasonable relationship with Ukraine, who will be driven into the arms of the West.

Seems like a convenient opportunity to train the Ukrainian troops on any new weapons systems that might just accidentally show up on their doorstep.

drones are cheap, and easy to use and have a Hellfire missile attached, which, fun fact, just happens to be the missile the US specifically designed and built to take out Russia's most advanced and top-of-the-line tanks

Drones like that are also easily shot down by a First World nation using an integrated air defense system and MANPADs like the SA-24 Grinch

Yes. Seinfeld is obscure. A show that ran in prime-time for nine years, and is still in syndication is "obscure". After 180 episodes, and countless awards, it's a show that no one has ever heard of.

Medvedev: Vlad, we really, really, need to talk soon.

Pootie Tang: About what?

Medvedev: Well, you lost Ukraine by offering them too little money.
You invaded the Crimea, where we already had bases set up.
Turkey is threatening to lockup our fleet in the Black Sea.
The trade sanctions are gonna cost us over 100 billion.
Now NATO is training right on our boarder.

Pootie Tang: Oh that!

The EU is not taking this lightly, they've gathered up the largest concentration of active military in one place since the end of WW2.

It's 12 guys, if you count the drunken Irishman....but I wouldn't want to mess with them.

I doubt it. As much as NATO doesn't want to start a war with Russia, Russia's not about to start a war with NATO either. If NATO has a bunch of troops there, Russia isn't going to invade Ukraine..... errr, any more than they already have, that is!

Ukraine on it's own might not slow the Russian army down enough to make them think twice, but NATO is more than a match for them and they know it.

No, that was Joe Piscopo.  I think Seinfeld sat at the end of the bar on Cheers.
