Kel was the funny one, and the real star of Kenan & Kel (or should I say Kel & Kenan?), and Goodburger. Kenan sucked on SNL too. He used to crack me up on All That as Pierre Escargot and Ishboo, though.

Kenan has his moments on SNL but they are few and far between. All his characters overlap each other in mannerisms, accent, and speech. His range is awful.

When first heard about their issues I decided behind the scenes Kel sexually abused Kenen. This incident only reinforces that belief.

His Cosby is the only reason he even managed to do as well as SNL.

The beef began when Kel was let go from SNL in 2005 (?). He had apparently majorly pissed off Lorne Michaels. In the process of the firing Kel tried to take Kenan down with him and that has never been forgiven.

You will notice Kel doesn't get very much work.  The bad reference is still out there.

IIRC, Kel was hired first, then Kenan either later in the season or the next one.  They both started as featured, rather than main cast.

No one corrected this yet, or I'm missing the joke, but Kenan wouldn't show up to GIVE the award, not get.

The guy getting the award was apparently reputed serial molester Dan Schneider (fat guy from Head of the Class) who was standing up in the audience during the TMZ clip.

Damn I hate TMZ clips.

I haven't been watching this season but on IMDB and elsewhere Kenan's still listed as a cast member. Wondering if there is bitterness over competing for the same spot? Kenan's not very professional if he'll let that poison a friendship (assuming there aren't other factors at play).

Not an unfair question, it really is assumed as they did do a few projects together besides All That. That said, if there still is bitterness over having competed for the same SNL spot that's still pretty lame.

My favorite skit this season was the presidential apology with the south African sign language guy and the surprise Merkel selfie.

Kenan's signs were funny and I love Kate's (?) impression of the German Chancellor.

That's a shame. Kel comes off as a nice guy in the video. Kenan was always the less funny one. Maybe because they both auditioned for SNL Kenan felt threatened that Kel was there. Maybe it comes down to he realizes what a lucky person he is to have won out over someone who is in fact much funnier than him. SNL isn't funny though. Lorne Michaels, you made the wrong pick.

A good straight man (which Kenan is) is worth a dozen funny men. Of course, you end up just doing reaction to the wacky stuff, which results in both a) not being terribly funny yourself and b) basically doing the same everyman persona all the time.

That seems an extraordinary claim. Abbott worth more than Costello. Zeppo more than Groucho. Martin more than Lewis. I'm going with "no".

I'd find that surprising, but then I remembered I haven't watched any SNL in the past 10 years other than a few select skits...on the internet the day after they were on the show.

/even then, Celebrity Jeopardy remains the only consistently amusing thing the show's ever produced

Wow, 11 seasons. According to Wikipedia, he's tied for the 3rd longest-serving main castmember ever. Right behind him is Tim Meadows; I think I'm sensing a pattern.

Yes, after Head of the Class he went on to be a very successful producer of tween sitcoms. He's the one Robert Downey Jr. was accusing of ruining young actresses' lives by molesting them. (RDJ as a blogger named something like Himm.). Hope it's not true. His shows are good.

But his big star was Amanda Bynes, so.. ..

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around, with Kel getting pissed off that Kenan was selected over him and saying a few choice words to Kenan that ended up wrecking the friendship. Now, Kel is trying to bury the hatchet and Kenan is still angry.

People don't really get why Straight Men are the most important part of a comedy duo. Baseball (or Who's on First) by Abbot and Costello would not be funny without Abbot's delivery and timing.
