God protects fools, no doubt about it.  If for no other reason than to keep them around as a reminder not to do that.

They get lucky once, and that justifies their belief that evolution is nonsense.
Keep trying for that Darwin award, guys!

I didn't see anybody holding a beer so it wasn't a serious attempt at Darwin

I know.  I have a strong urge to cock-punch the guy holding the camera.

He knew it was coming, that was why he had the damn camera out... AND HE STILL MISSED IT

Carl is a farking retard....

Well, to me that's a little more evidence that it is probably legit. When the world can crash around an amateur videographer and they can keep everything in frame, they either aren't an amateur or it isn't real.

Carl, get back in the silo!

I'm pretty sure this is done all the time, exactly like this. Silos are built the way they are for a reason, which best suits construction, use, and demolition.

The only real fail is the "Daily Dumbass" for trying to make it a "fail" and maybe the cameraman for running during the money shot.

I would have used a 12-Ga. shotgun with slug loads.  Shoot one panel at a tie fro a reasonable distance.

Or, ya know, hire a farking professional.

You mean city professional or redneck professional?

Smeggy Smurf: You mean city professional or redneck professional?

Well, I'm assuming either, being professional, would know better than to stand right next to the thing and beat on it.  City pro would use some shaped charges to bring it down.  Redneck pro would loop a heavy wire rope around the base and tug on it - from a safe distance - with a dozer.

To be very safe, knock about 1/3 of the panels on the side in which you want it to fall.  Attach a long, heavy-duty cable high on the silo.  Set a post about 4' deep in the ground 75-100' from the silo, attach a heavy pulley around the post, thread the cable through the pulley then tug with a dozer at right angles to the expected direction of the fall.

MooseBayou: That was fun, you betcha.

Without checking, I'm going to say with 99% certainty this took place in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

I'll bet doing something like that makes you feel alive.  After the dust settles and if you're not dead under the rubble, I'll be that last hit was satisfying.

I once tore down a brick barn with a clawhammer.  Once.

/when I was 13.
//I'll never do anything quite that stupid again for as long as I live
///Almost got flattened by an entire wall

I remember no such event.

They sounded kinda Wisconsonie but there wasn't any beer visible so I'm not sure.

I was smashing you into a brick barn for 30 minutes.

I thought they did pretty well. It fell in the right direction and I didn't see any broken windows on the structure right behind it. That said, I might have taken a short break between each pane to see if the weight would do the job naturally without me having to stand right under it until the last second.

carl totally tried this before.  a few years ago, for sure.

A tree removal guy would look and see if he could take it down top down in small chunks.  This doesn't have to be that different.  The catch is swinging the axe/chainsaw/sledgehammer might be impractical up a silo.

I would have at least put up a few sheets of plywood around the bottom to stop any potential flying shrapnel.    And pulled it down from a distance.  With a good anchor, you might be able to do it with a come-along, or other winch.

/ I almost spelled winch with an 'e'

I love how he knocks out a support beam, and then turns his back on the structure to look back at his buddy with the camera...  Knocks out another support beam and turns his back again...        Anyways...  this is full retard from start to finish.   they could have simply knocked out 2 of those beams and strung a long chain through and attached that to a truck or tractor way out of the fall zone...

Buncha city folk in this thread.

Goal:  Take down silo without damaging other building and without getting hurt
Result:  Accomplished

I was waiting for the "Yeah, hey", which would make it Wisconsin, for sure, as far as I'm concerned, but, it never came, so it could be Minnesota.  No beer and no Packers gear visible, I don't know.....then again, they nearly killed themselves, so that puts a check in the Wisconsin column.
