So why do lefties seem to have no problem siding with the radical muslims and only have hatred for radical christian?

Because despite what fox news has told the people who consider "leftie" a dirty word,

the radical muslims aren't here in the usa trying to impose sharia law.  the radical christians, however, are all over this nation and are a real threat to the separation of church and state.

Really? No muslims here in the USA trying to convert us and impose Sharia? None?

Well, I can see your point since radical Muslims and radical Christians have so much in common it's easy to get them confused.

I wouldn't say there are none.  But, to your original concern... there are a hell of a lot more radical xtians in this nation than there are TOTAL muslims.   Why do people here biatch about the fundie xtians more?  because there are more of them, they are more noticeable, and they are more of a threat because many of them end up getting elected.

I'd wager our beamish boy here is of the belief that ALL Muslims are radical fundamentalists bent on world domination.

Furthermore, I'd wager his trousers are drenched.

So glad I have never wanted to, nor ever will travel to such a farked up country (also will never fly Qantas again since they joined up with UAE and now land in Dubai.)

Wish we would all stop our businesses and diplomats having anything to do with them, see how they like being shut off from the free world.

I was refering to them *still* cutting off hands, stoning women to death for being raped, and fanatical intolerance to others (Of course Christians were all about killing in the name of Christ back then too, but they grew out of it. Mostly), and not their wonderful contributions to the advancement of science and mathmatics. And I have been accused of being many things over the years. I think you might be right.  It's the separation of church and state that allows the televangelists/prosperity preachers/con-persons to exist and operate in the first place.  If this nation were a theocracy based on biblical principles all of them would be out of business.

And we'd be right back to where we weren't.  The codification of official, government-approved religion was a basis for the Puritans coming here.  Now they want to go back to it, and undo a few hundred years' worth of practicing as your conscience deigns.

You may want to re-check that history. Several colonies were founded with "official" religions.

Rhode Island was started specifically to give religious "objectors" (those who weren't of the "correct" strain of Protestant) a safe place. Maryland was specifically founded as a Catholic colony. Pennsylvania was a home for Quakers, and was (IIRC) the first to allow people from all denominations to serve in government.

Many of the colonies had rules about who was eligible to serve in government, and those usually didn't involve atheists/agnostics, Jews, Muslims (or "Mohametans"), "Hindoos", or Buddhists, and usually excluded either Catholics or Protestants (depending on the state's religion).

But you're right that many people want to go back to that. It's really weird - we spent thousands of years throwing off the various shackles of religion, only to beg for them back.

Does it have to be a turtle? If I have to get gay married, I want it to be to Gavin Rossdale. Not because I find him attractive (not that I don't), but because Gwen Stefani might want to watch....and then join in. And that would make it all worth it.

Or does it have to be an animal? Because I'd go with a honey badger. Because if anyone talked shiat about us, my husband could fark them up proper.

The real problem is Authoritarians protecting the weakness of their own moral framework onto the rest of us, who have no difficulty being good people without the threat of punishment from some magical daddy-figure.

Transference of fear and self loathing to an authoritarian vessel.  It's catharsis, he absorbs their dread with his narrative. Because of this he's effective in proportion of the amount of certainty he can project.
Certain linguistic anthropologists think that religion is a language virus that rewrites pathways in the brain.  It dulls critical thinking.

Not exactly.  It was because Oliver Cromwell wasn't enforcing -their- religion.  Remember that the Pilgrims first went to Amsterdam before they sailed to the Americas.  If liberal Amsterdam wasn't good enough for them, that's a good sign that "freedom" in its widest sense wasn't what they were looking for.

And, in fact, once they arrived, they proceeded to set up a series of colonies that were some of the most dark and repressive theocracies ever seen on the face of the earth.   We should thank our lucky stars that the Age of Enlightenment kicked the Puritans' philosophical asses.

Arabs are the Westboro Baptist Church of the Islamic world with the unfortunate added insult that we're all expected to go there at least once in our lives because they've got Mecca.
