Well this is the dumbest thing I've seen in awhile. The original (American) version is obviously written with an actual pen, while the dumb UK version is clearly a stupid computer font. And why didn't Steve get around to watching Star Wars in the UK?

Amazing that people get paid to do things like this. And fark whatever happened in the 1966 World Cup, I don't care and neither would goddam Captain America.

Captain America would care about as much as the 1966 World Cup as an unfrozen Sherlock Holmes would care about Super Bowl III.

Maybe Cap is a huge fan of New Order's "World in Motion" and he's looking for some context.

Damnit. One of the things I have to do for work is see every movie that comes out, and I'm not looking forward to Captain America.

Damn the summer, and all of its stupid superhero/CG films! After Captain America comes Spiderman. OOOoooh, it's CG Spiderman and some CG villain smashing up a bunch of CG shiat for some reason! Yo, Dawg. I heard you like CG, so I put more CG in your CG.

Sigh.

Wait a minute. Was I just complaining that I have to go to the movies as part of my job??? OK, one of you farkers may kill me now. I've clearly got my priorities all mixed up.

Nevermind.

If you haven't seen roughly 2.5 hojillion dumber things so far this year then you've been in a coma - and you sure as hell haven't been to the political tab. It's just a cute way to get a smile from local audiences, that's all. Seems clever enough to me.

Sure Cap wouldn't care about those things - we here in America know that, which is why we get the "real" list. But the folks seeing in other countries are paying good money to see the movie and the filmmakers are trying to know their audience and give them a cute little tongue in cheek moment they can appreciate. I fail to see a problem.

So that's why Coluche and Louis de Funes were on Captain America's list, when I saw it in France ? Yeah, that's pandering. I can confirm that at least in the French version, the list is different.

Also, Batroc is played by the French-Canadian George Saint-Pierre. When he talked, a lot of people laughed at his very Quebecer accent. It's be like if the Queen of England spoke with a Southern drawl.

There's a lot of plot in this movie. This is basically a 70s style paranoid thriller, which makes the inclusion of Robert Redford a very nice touch. It seems that Captain America movies are going to be a different genre each. This is something I like.

All the Marvel films are going to have different looks and feels.  They are approaching them in the same way they do comics.  While all the comics exist in a shared narrative (mostly) different artists and writers are allowed to be expressive within editorial limits.  Same thing for the films.  And it's a good thing.

We're not talking about an extra scene though, we're just talking about a short list that's going to flash up on the screen for a second or two... It just doesn't sound like pandering to me. It just sounds like a cute nod to the audiences.

That's a big thing with Jack Kerouac, he goes off in 'Satori in Paris' how the French mock him to his face for speaking with a Quebecois dialect(he's from Mass, descended from Canucks).  Same thing happend with my dad in Poland where his dialect was seen as being extinct since his parents had emigrated nearly 90 odd years before-one guy in a bar even went as far as to say "You sound like a Russian" which annoyed him a great deal.

Time to look like an fancy lad: what the hell is the Troubleman soundtrack? I found a 70's Blaxploitation film staring Mr. T called Trouble Man, but I wasn't aware of any significance to the sound track.

Unless this is something fictional in the Marvel universe.

It's not the fact he spoke with a Quebec accent, but the fact he did it while playing a French character. I mean, I know that MMA fighters are not necessarily born actors, but he did not even attempt to fake a French accent.

If I recall there is a throwaway joke in Great Lakes Avengers: Misassembled that Batroc admitted he really is from Quebec, but I doubt that is really canon.
