I reject the entire blemish of their argument

So heirlooms are out.  Gotcha.  The foodies are going to cry foul and go whip up something tasty in protest

This isn't as weird as it sounds and it applies to all produce.

It costs the same to ship ugly produce as good looking produce. Locally an ugly tomato might cost 10 cents, a good one 20 cents (just making up numbers). 50% savings!  But add 75 cents shipping and now it's 85 versus 95 cents. People aren't going to buy ugly food to save a dime.

The premise Fark is going with is lame on it's face but to see articles from a decade ago getting upwards of 100 comments is kind of entertaining.

These ugly ripes aren't really that great.  The camparis they hothouse up in Tennessee taste better.

Homegrown are the bomb.  I almost never buy tomatoes from a store.

Just planted some Mr. Stripey's this weekend.  First try at heirloom.

I grew those a couple years ago.  The production wasn't great, but the taste was good.  Personally, I'm a Brandywine man.

I don't remember the name, but I'm pretty sure the tomatoes I bought last summer had "ugly" in the name. They were dark purple, a little smaller than a handball, and came in plastic three-packs. They were about the most flavorful, amazingly good tomatoes I ever had. From now on, I'll seek them out especially.

Just about every organically-grown heirloom has been hella good, though, and I'm usually not impressed with organic veg. I'm willing to make an exception for tomatoes, though, as the process-farmed ones are uniformly tasteless.

Florida ugly fruit are too ugly to live.

But they're they're still beautiful compared to the People of the Saint Augustine WalMart.

I grew a variety called Caspian Pink that was awesome, very Brandywine like.
