I spent gosh, something like 6-7 years going to school, and working in Riverside. It's also the place I met Matt. But my time there is revolved around college. I personally hate Riverside and got 2 car stereos stolen from my cars. After a while you get sick of the high unemployment rate and the vast differential between higher middle class and poor poor.

Matt grew up there and I'm glad he was my guide into that place. To me it will always be a college town.

I personally look forward to the Korean/Spanish fusion restaurant downtown and get my kimchi quesadilla on.

I guess I don't mind it THAT BAD.

aerojockey: TwowheelinTim: aerojockey: Pretty soon there will be a Fark party in every zip code in Southern California.  Will be going for sure.  Fortunately my parents will have gone home by then.  I don't think I've ever been to the Inland Empire other than driving through it.

No worries. You're not missing anything.

One time, realizing I hadn't visited it, I did an internet search for top attractions in the Inland Empire.  Needless to say, I found NOTHING.  Not even a quaint backwater art gallery or anything.  Just a few mildly interesting camping areas.

Actually I do remember visiting once.  I got off the freeway in Fontana and ate at a Boston Market and bought the Grapes of Wrath at a nearby bookstore.  The latter because I had all my possessions in my car and was heading west seeking my fortune.  That was only the third time I'd been in California.

There are something like 25 art galleries just in Riverside.  The first Thursday of every month is art walk, and you can cruise to all of them (they're just a couple blocks from each other), sipping free wine, munching cheese, meeting the artists.  There's tons of street art too.  This week is art walk.

Come to think of it, its kind of silly to go to the Tyler mall during art walk.  That's maybe the most interesting thing Riverside has going, and you guys are going to the other side of town, to a chain restaurant.

/maybe that IS the most appropriate socal thing to do...
//To the strip mall!

May 3 is a Saturday, though; we wouldn't be missing it. Were you thinking of April 3rd?

OK, that has to be the weirdest Fark filter I've ever seen.

Perhaps a Humboldt Fark party is in order. It's a part of CA that most people don't consider visiting unless they're looking for a job trimming weed. There's a lot more to it than a bunch of hippy growers and the dirt bags who come here to trim and smoke their weed. It's actually a really biatchin place to live, even if you don't smoke pot.

/Trimmigants are annoying.

khyberkitsune: TwowheelinTim: When I was a younger man living in the $#!+hole that is southern California, we called it Reeferside.

They got rid of all the dispensaries here. Now it's easier to get meth.

Oh, I'm talking about the seventies. There were no dispensaries there then either.

I've been away for many decades. I don't miss it one little bit. I get a knot in my guts just thinking about going to visit family who still live there. No, it's not that I don't love my family either; just to head that one off.

Well, it was funny to quote your post and get filterpwned like that. Apparently they've been doing it with other words and names for Love a Marsupial Day. I had to Google this one - they misspelled the name, but apparently Stephenie Meyer is the author of the Twilight books. Slightly obscure, yet hilarious.

I hoped it was Riverside, Iowa, future home to James T. Kirk. And just down the road from Iowa City. But, no. I has a sad.

Shouldn't this be called a "North San Diego" Fark party? It's only a little further than Escondido and that was a "San Diego" Fark party. :-)

Can't believe I've seen Yucaipa mentioned on fark, and it wasn't me. I grew up there. I now live about 40 minutes from Riverside. I'd go to the party, but it's Riverside, I try to avoid one way street hedge maze pay to park dumps as much as possible.

Oh Saturday.

Argh, I won't be able to make it out for this one. Y'all can think of me when you roll a gutter ball.

VivianVivisect: khyberkitsune: aerojockey: I don't think I've ever been to the Inland Empire other than driving through it.

Some areas are nice, some areas suck.

Next Riverside party that gets planned should happen in downtown, though. You've got everything around. Porno shops, Riverside Fox Plaza, Sushi, bars, pool tables, tons of food, a restaurant inside an old bank (I ate in the vault, once,) and a bunch of other stuff.

Yes, but it all closes at 9-10

If you're doing downtown at The Riv...go to Lake Alice, pool tables upstairs, live music downstairs!

2014-04-27 02:58:14 AM
Also, The Mission Inn...maybe a bit upscale for some tho...

2014-04-30 08:40:56 AM
Ain't gonna make it. I'm out in Texas building a fairly expensive commercial hydroponics system that will provide food for nearby casinos until the 11th.

Y'all take a beer down for me, I'll do my part and go double my wings count on the Wall of Flame at Pluckers and get you guys a picture just like this one:

i.imgur.com

But with double that wing count. Deal?

/yes, that beer is bigger than my head

Why do you have to do this in my hometown? Hasn't Riverside suffered enough with spirit-crushing heat, gangs, poverty, bad drivers, political hacks, always-under-construction roads, meth heads, pot heads...etc.  The list goes on and on. Now you want Farkers to congregate? It,s like Fail met dispair and had a baby. So, yeah, I'll be there. But I am not bringing my mom or my dog.

Yucaipa! I like how they remodeled "uptown". Now the useless shiatty stores at least look pleasant.

Honest answer? Cuz Don J. Rules and he lives out in temecula and curiosity hit and we are trying to meet as many Farkers as possible.

I am trying to get out there to look at a truck.

I doubt I can make it tomorrow.

Live in town, but won't make it.  Not sure I want people to know who I am.  I am OK lurking, killing time between real life, Fark just stops me from being bored on the bathroom.

Remember we meet at the bowling alley first, then we go to the yard house.

2014-05-02 07:07:42 PM
I wish I could go.  I grew up in Berdoo.  Used to come into Riverside for punk rock shows at Spanky's.  Well, that and work.

Have fun.

with the exception that Escondido is in the San Diego metro, and Riverside is 100 miles away from San Diego...sure.  It should certainly be called that.

As someone who never lived in Riverside (but got drunk plenty there).. The party is at Tyler, no one way streets or paid parking out that way.

Besides, if you hit downtown after business hours all the parking is free. And aren't all the one way streets between the 91 and market (east to west) and 14th to 3rdish (north to south)?

Okay. We'll go back home.

I am planning the Orange County annual Fark party, how does Seal beach Bar crawl sound? I should do that tonight. Or Monday.

Then we will go back down.

I miss toiletAid.

Went to the last OC Fark party. Memorable night, genuine people..... and I got my shoes back.

Take the plunge, you'll be glad you did.

Yard house also has St.Bernardus on tap so your night will end well no matter what.

Too far for me to drive home all Farked up.

There's also the minor fact that Escondido is in San Diego County and Riverside is in, wait for it.... Riverside County.

Let me get that for you.

LOL

So I'm curious. Is it that you have money to burn, and suppose that others don't? Or visa versa?

Why point something like that out in either case?

I've been a lurker and occasional poster since 2000 and never really paid attention to Fark Party information until now. Bummer I'm home with the kids while the wife is in San Francisco.

BTW, another farker mentioned the restaurant in downtown that has a room in an old bank vault, it was called Phood on Main and is now closed. A new restaurant is going in its place, called Mezcal (gourmet Mexican food). From what I hear, it's owned by the same people who opened the new (2013) whiskey bar, ProAbition.  There's also a great hot dog place that would be ideal for the next Fark Party called D Dogs (http://ddogsburgersbeers.com/ ).

Just got to Riverside to start getting ready for the party.

When do you expect to relocate to Yard House?  Unfortunately, I doubt I'm coming (my parents visiting wore me out) but if I do come I'll catch you guys at there.
