Consistent excellence would ruin the Cubs, who must remain a fable, not a winner.

In fairness to the Cubs' manager, if I were a manager I probably would have challenged the first play of the game, regardless of what it was, just so I could be the first.

There are one thousand, nine hundred and eight reasons why that was a bad idea.

Actually, if Keith Olbermann is anyone to trust on the matter, the Cubs have a whole lot of minor league talent that may aid them in chasing the pennant next year, just to keep in line with the Zemeckis Prophecy...unless Hoyer and Epstein panic. Unfortunately, that means they'll probably slog through a 100-loss season this year...

And they lost to the Pirates. How does that happen?

The Cubs could lose to the Bears.

/ The Pirates won 94 games last year

When someone gets lucky and finds a bat that can actually knock one out of the park before he strikes out.

/Like I said in the Opening Day thread, the biggest lesson to take away from this game is that the Cardinals only have the Reds to worry about for the NL Central title...and probably not even them.

Dude, it's one game.  Way too early to make judgement calls.
