The most valuable franchise in sports spends money in an effort to make money?

Makes me want to punch something

So what you are saying that the Yankees is turning into the Washington DC football team?

Good.

If I were a Yankees fan I would be delighted to hear the team owner talking this way. The farm system isn't producing players ready to perform at the major league level, spend money and get the best players you can afford.

The hell of it is, it wasn't nearly enough. Their infield is terrible. I don't care how much of a legend Derek Jeter is or how much pageantry they cram into his retirement tour, he is not going to be carrying the Yankees on his back this year. They did not gain enough in the offseason to make up for the losses of Cano and Rivera, and an old team is one year older.

Everybody on the MLB Tonight crew has the Yankees making the playoffs, half of them because they simply couldn't bear to leave Jeter out of the postseason. That is not how baseball works. The Red Sox, Orioles, Rays and Blue Jays are not going to roll over and just let Jeter win. That is the LAST division where teams are going to roll over.
