Obamacare has also caused the US population to increase 100 fold.

2014-03-31 10:44:46 AM
It estimated that the uninsured rate for that population has fallen from 20.9 percent to 16.6 percent.

Not a bad start.

2014-03-31 10:44:54 AM
• 9.5 million people have signed up for what?
• 9.5 million is 3 percent of 320,000,000, not .03
• most people receive insurance through their employers, via medicare or via tricare - obamacare is only intended to help those who were uninsured
• the program has only just started

so, in the final analysis:

Which is weird, because birth control is mandatory, and you're required to undergo by annual abortions, just in case.

I got my mammogram when I went in for my bi-annual abortion. It was an all-in-one clinic, the Tri-State Abortionplex and Imam training center. I think they were hauling old people in the back for death panels.

I think the 2010 Census estimated that about 15.5% of Americans were uninsured, so if that number still holds and the U.S. population is around 320 million, then close to 20% of uninsured have signed up for it. Seems like a pretty decent number.

True. I've had excellent employer based health insurance for over 10 years. But thanks to ACA, I no longer pay a co-pay for my annual visit, and my birth control is free of charge.

So add me to the list of people positively affected by ACA, even if not to the extent of "Can now get cancer treatment".

The goal of ACA is spelled out right in the preamble of the law itself but if you had to summarize it, it is right there in the title.  The idea is to make health care in the US more affordable.

Of course. Now that I can get free birth control, it means I get to have more sex. Because that's how hormonal birth control works, you see.

So subby, aside from your TMF (total math fail)... Are we supposed to be upset that literally millions of human beings now have healthcare that they didn't have before? Because the rest of us aren't all sociopathic shiatheels who'd rather those people died or went bankrupt for no good goddamn reason other than they didn't have the good sense to be born in to money or lie to old conservative malcontents all day for profit.

If anything, we should be pissed that "Obamacare" doesn't go far enough and doesn't institute a single-payer system like the rest of the civilized world. It's the right thing to do for both the country and for our people. But let me guess, the only way you can get boner any more is while listening to Wagner while masturbating to thoughts of poor people dying from easily treatable diseases.

vpb: kronicfeld: vpb: I wonder if subby realizes that Obamacare is for people who don't have insurance and signing up the entire population isn't it's goal?

Technically, that's not true either. The ACA/Obamacare is a bundle of different laws and regulations, many of which affect people who already have insurance, even good insurance.

Sure it does things like allowing kids to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26 and preventing the exclusion of pre-existing" conditions", but that doesn't involve "signing up for Obamacare"

Nothing involves signing up for obamacare though.  You sign up for Aetna or BCBP or medicaid, just like always.

There is no Obamacare that anyone signs up for.  You either have health insurance you purchase through a private exchange or you don't.   Everyone that has health insurance in America is subject to the ACA.   That's one reason why Hobby Lobby is fighting it.  They don't want to meet the mandates it requires them to pay for.

So if you have health insurance, either through the exchange or through your employer you are receiving the benefits of Obamacare.

/Every time I call my mom she asks if I signed up for Obamacare.  It's getting old.  Everyone that purchases health insurance has signed up for Obamacare!  It regulates every health insurance policy in the nation.

I think it will be some time before we get to see what the demographics are.  I'm sure there is a lot of bleed over from the uninsured to the switching plans due to cost.  Also, a plan can cover more than one person, so it seems silly to say enrollment is 6 million, if its 6 million families.  I think there will still be a huge gap in those covered, and I think that gap will be one that is pretty permanent barring a single payor system.

There should be a way to tell how many people were insured before ACA, and how many are insured after ACA. If you take that data and the number of people insured under the exchanges, you will get the number of previously uninsured that are now insured. I would show the math, but in this thread, I will surely make a math error.

Please tell me y'all have to get mammograms too now?

I got my mammogram when I went in for my bi-annual abortion. It was an all-in-one clinic, the Tri-State Abortionplex and Imam training center. I think they were hauling old people in the back for death panels.

I don't need the bi-annual abortion. My body has a way of shutting that down.

Almost 10 million people now having insurance is a negligible ammount. It either works inmediately on everyone ever and makes everything awesome or it's utter failure.

That's the kind of logic Sean Hannity used when blaming the economy on President Obama. And by President Obama, I mean President-elect Obama.

Men have mammograms. Not often, but I've heard of it. Lot of fun from what I hear, basically involves a vise.

How do they do it on men. or women for that matter, when there's nothing to squash? (Fark males excepted, of course).

That's what i asked. It was a coworker's boyfriend, and she says they squash as much pec as they can get in there. He said it sucked, and she told me that because there's not as much to squash, it's supposed to hurt more on guys, but having never experienced one firsthand, I can't say. Suffice to say that I have met a dude who had one, and talked to him about it. He wasn't really recommending it for recreational activity, that's for sure.

Tricky Chicken: There should be a way to tell how many people were insured before ACA, and how many are insured after ACA.

Even that isn't entirely as easy as you'd think.  Heck, you'd be surprised how many people don't, themselves, know whether they have insurance or not.

Seriously... this is a rather common conversation in ERs and walk-in clinics.

"Do you have insurance?"
"I don't know. I think so."
"What do you mean 'you don't know'?"
"I think my job has some, maybe" (or "my baby's social worker had me fill in something").
"Are you paying any premiums? Do you have an insurance card?"
"I don't know".

"Even if they actually did sign up 9 million people, so far we have spent 638 million on the HHS website alone not to mention every single state has its own website.

Thats 70 million dollars for every person enrolled.

For this amount of money, we could have bought insurance for every uninsured person in America and not screwed up the medical /insurance system for the rest of us hard working Americans.
