The woman behind the video told WTSP that she's sorry she laughed when the driver sped past her and then promptly lost control of his pickup truck, traveling across the median and slamming into a post.
"Honestly, looking back, I feel kind of bad for laughing," she said, declining to give her name. "But at the same time, it's kind of funny. Which I guess means I don't really feel bad at all. I mean, otherwise, why would I give that caveat? No, screw that; I'm not sorry at all."

The filming driver still should have moved the fark over instead of filming someone tailgating her.

Her inter-George Zimmerman wouldn't let her, because the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing.

On the one hand, the guy was a total asshole throughout the video.

On the other hand, the woman needs to learn not to camp in the left lane and how to properly record a video in landscape format.

I'll call it a wash.

She was passing slower traffic. Not real fast, but she was doing it. And the guy in the PU was being an a-hole from the beginning.

I agree with both of you, actually.  She wasn't being saintly but she was far from exhibiting "Florida-level annoying" left-lane behavior.  The vertical video was irritating but I'd like to say that means she was really not putting a lot of thought or effort into filming, just holding up her phone and otherwise mostly paying attention to the road.  Paying attention to the looming, 6000-lb F350 isn't a knock against her.  Another thing: that seemed more like a boulevard than a highway.

But she should have been over in the right lane as soon as it opened, instead of making Cletus McHothead have to pass her on the right.

Yeah, that's kind of messed up.  The guy was being a prick and a basic menace but had I see him go into that wreck, I would have been immediately frightened for his safety and well being.  It's nice if the guy's dumbass actions can somehow be put in check but tailgating and flipping me the bird is very small compared to getting injured or killed in a car accident.

Not to defend any asshattery that was going on, but I believe from the last thread the lady was making a Left turn off the two lane highway meaning that she had every right to be in the left lane.

Upon closer inspection though, it was deduced that she was a woman and clearly that is grounds for revoking her Driving Privileges.   The man seemed to be acting in accordance to the situation she created by having a vagina behind the wheel.

Nobody is "good" in this scenario, but the truck driver went full retard with it.  You can't go psychotic just because there's an idiot in the passing lane.

that was a nice 350 in that video.  they were both idiots

Perhaps I've been driving in Illinois too long but that's not tailgating.  I know I'm supposed to be shocked at how "close" he is at such "high" speeds (55mph, really?  try that at 80mph).  So from my perspective the video goes something like this:

Some guy is driving behind her car for awhile and then decides to pass.  He drives by her and the situation is done.  Oh wait, this enormous biatch speeds up to pass him again and as she does so he notices she's filming him.  So then he decides to be a dick and flip her off and then cut her off and that's what causes him to lose control.

So this lady is so worried about how unsafe that guy is driving, she decides to film him for 2 minutes not paying full attention to the road and then goad him on to make the video more interesting?  She should be the one getting arrested.

You can't really tell what's in front of her. If it was just heavy traffic all the way, whaddya gonna do?

What I find most amazing is that she videod the whole thing while driving.  Perhaps if she was concentrating on driving in the first place, the dude would never have gotten so angry.
But what's even MORE amazing is that after all, the police thanked her for the video!  Is there no law against what she did?!

I'm not defending the guy.  He was being an asshole.  But this woman is hardly innocent or saintly for her behaviour.

They probably both should receive reckless driving tickets. Sorry, filming a guy being a dick is no safer than his aggressive driving.

Did they arrest the lady for not using a hands free device while driving?  That would be awesome.  He was a douchbag and so was she.  It would have been better if she wrecked too right when she was gloating "Ha ha that's what you get CRASH".

She also says she was turning left. Do you see a turn signal?

that is just a believable excuse.

She flat out recorded her reason for not moving over. She was going fast enough.

Exactly.  It's not a freeway, or interstate.  Big difference.  I have to drive a stretch like this every day...four lanes, divided, but it's a state highway, with little country roads having access.  I drive 70mph (it's a 55mph limit), and try not to get in the left lane unless I need to.  Still, when you get over there and hit the turn signal to turn left, you've got some assclown in one of these "tiny penis" trucks barreling up behind you at 85.  I used to have a truck (just an F150 with the 8ft. bed), never felt like that gave me some kind of privilege.

How does someone lose control switching lanes?

Yeah, I'm okay with that.  But he wasn't aggressive driving until the very end, after she sped up to antagonize him, while filming him.

If it`s possible to pull in to the driving lane and undertake a car sitting in the overtaking lane then the car in the overtaking lane has not pulled back over in a timely manner.

I drive in the UK and the continent so I am happy passing on either side. If people are being assholes by sitting in the outside lane and not pulling back in then I just take the attitude that there is an empty lane and I will use it. often they swerve quickly back into the correct lane so I can pass legally (which is best), sometimes not.

Sometimes they speed up in a desperate attempt to not let me pass. These are the real assholes. They think they are the police and have the job of enforcing the law.

I find it hilarious as they speed up to 90 and drive dangerously in an attempt to make the road safer control the behaviour of another human being...

At least I`m now driving at 90, which was the intention.

The best fun is if the person who was doing exactly the speed limit and not pulling back in before now shows their hand by doing 90 behind you with full headlights about 10ft from your bumper.

I WILL drive down the road at 90 unless it is too congested. You can let me go down the road or drive along with me but you will not stop me unless all the lanes are blocked by a rolling roadblock.

But there is no reason to get upset like that guy, it never ends well.

It isn't illegal to take video while driving, only texting and talking. Now, if she had at any point captured herself breaking some sort of driving law or the police decided that her driving was impaired by said use, then yeah, there'd be evidence against her as well (as so many teens who post videos on facebook of them racing, only to have it be used as evidence). Heck, even if they did find some damning evidence of her, they were not going to do anything because in this case, they already had a bad guy in this story.

The report I read/saw about it said that the police were happy the woman filmed it because it allowed them to identify and arrest the man for reckless driving and criminal damage to property. Do we really need a follow up that was reported in the original story?

FTA: "None of us are good drivers," she said. "We all have our problems. Maybe this is his opportunity for growth. Maybe he can use this as a learning tool and not go off the rails next time."

Sorry, lady, but you're part of the problem.  You were waving your cell phone around like you were trying to swat a fly *and* you were driving.  The police should have cited you for distracted driving, especially since you were concentrating on focusing the recording on when the pickup driver wiped out.

$20 says if a pedestrian had suddenly entered the road you would have hit the individual due to your being distracted.

//Has a dashcam for this very reason.

How does someone lose control switching lanes?

It looked like he went sideways through some puddles but I didn't see exactly why he started sliding around in the first place. Maybe he pulled his foot from the accelerator and got into some oversteer, then overcorrected into a tank-slapper sort of thing (before hitting the puddles). He did slide a long way in the opposite lanes, so it's possible the entire road was wet.

I love those people.  I just keeping going faster until they inevitably look down at their speedometer and realize they're not winning this particular game of chicken.  I do this even when my target speed on a 70mph road is ~79.  Guy is in front of me, I've got the cruise set to my target speed and I rapidly am catching up to him meaning he's probably going right around 70 maybe slightly less.  He comes up on someone doing 1 mph slower than him in the right lane so he cuts you off just as you're about to pass him (and 12 trucks) so now you get to follow him for 10 minutes while he slows down to 63 or whatever because these people like to pass at 1mph faster than the right lane so it takes as long as possible.  Then when he finally passes them he gets over to the right lane (or doesn't) and when you try to pass he's all of a sudden in a hurry now and stomps on the gas to try to block you.  A quick look in the rearview shows that this person has single-handedly created a blockade of several dozen cars trying to get past his retarded ass.  That's when it's time to stomp on the gas and see when he pussies out.  Most of them won't go much past 80 if they're one of these but I'll go 90+ for a few minutes to make some distance so I don't have to dodge around them.  Then I go back to my target speed on cruise.  Cruise control should be mandatory on highways.

lennavan: Oh wait, this enormous biatch speeds up to pass him again and as she does so he notices she's filming him.

From what I can tell from the audio in the recording, and also how passenger tubs like hers perform, there is no indication that she sped up; he dropped back to flip her the bird.  You'd have heard the downshift required, and seen the car jerk in the video if she nailed it that hard.

The Larch: I still can't figure out why the guy crashed. He's going maybe 65 MPH, switches lanes, and... *boom*. Uncontrolled skid across two lanes of traffic and into a light pole. How does that even happen?

It was raining, but probably had just started which kicks up all the oil on the road surface.  He was accelerating, which decreases traction and grip.  He swerved during the lane change, which causes a rapid shift in wheel loading, causing a loss of grip on the left side so that when he jerked the wheel back over his right-to-left momentum wasn't restrained by the left wheels' grip.  Spinout ensues.

2014-03-31 11:05:18 AM
Goading on other drivers into bad behavior is the exactly the sort of behavior that causes accidents and those accidents aren't always limited to the other driver. Count your lucky stars that you didnt get hurt, lady....and since you had the low mental capacity to declare your identity on the internet and local news, you should thank your deity of choice that you arent being arrested.

Of course he was an asshole.  I don't want to see him killed or seriously injured (anyone for that matter) as a reward for what he was doing.  I rage more than anyone about people's stupid careless shiat on the road and it pisses me off that someone's recklessness endangers others but given the situation where some serious incident is visited upon them for their stupidity, I wouldn't want to see them or anyone hurt.
