And Sarah Palin was born 50 years ago last month. This can't be a coincidence.

At the time of Great Alaska Earthquake, the theory of plate tectonics had only recently been considered viable. Scientists were still debating it, and seeking more evidence to bolster claims on both sides. Ultimately, evidence gathered from this quake wound up being one of the deciding factors that led to the geology community accepting plate tectonics.

/plate tectonics is just a theory. We should teach in our schools that earthquakes are caused by God to punish the wicked.

and Lo... in 1964 an angel broke the 4th seal and I heard a voice proclaim "behold, the harbinger of doom, Sarah Palin does come."

I am sure I read that in revelations somewhere...

And lo, the harbinger of doom did sayeth "I can see Gehenna from my house!" in a particularly irritating perky manner.

Alaska isn't the United States. It's the ass-end of Canada with a United States label.

The subsequent tsunami sure packed a punch...

Actually, I feel this photo needs a better caption.

Sarah is from Idaho, so your point is?

I hear a lot of potatoes come from there.

Between the mudslide in OR, and the quakes in CA last week, I would be seriously moving east if I lived anywhere west of the Mississippi.  Even the Madrid fault seems solid compared to the whole west coast.

Stay safe, farkers.

The Earth far below, sensing what it had brought forth, tore itself apart.

OtherBrotherDarryl: The tsunami from this quake took out much of Crescent City, CA.   Linky (with strange musical accompaniment)

That music wasn't quite as strange as the "5 Strangest Sounds Ever" video that had background music the whole video. Why would anyone that?

Obviously, this happened because God was upset over gay marriage and no further earthquake or volcano monitoring is needed in that state.

Marisyana: If something like this happened now it'd be a month before the news would report anything else.

CNN would creame themselves, theyd also have to start a specialized news channel, where they did 24 hour coverage and sent highly paid news crews, I mean scientific teams into quake areas, quake simulators, and even built large machines to dig down to the tectonic plates in an attempt to interview the planet Earth itself.

Just a few years ago, I lived through an earthquake. I actually had to stop working and say, "Is that an earthquake or a large truck driving by?"

Mr. Right: I think one of the reasons was that news anchors didn't have 24 hours to fill and, thus, were not given to blathering on when no information was available.

Also, I doubt any of the local cannery workers were banging Marilyn Monroe.
