"I trust my husband," she said. "That's what the world is about today. People don't trust anybody. And all these young kids, all they think about is sex."

Dear Dottie,

Does the word prepubescent mean anything to you?

Sorry your husband is a rapist.

FTFA: And all these young kids, all they think about is sex.

Let us for the sake of argument assume that is true. That doesn't mean they think about sex with a broken down fat old football coach.

Because she (probably sincerely) doesn't believe it happened, even with all the evidence.

I kind of feel bad for her, but she really needs to seek help, not publicity.  Nothing she says is going to change the outcome and nothing she says is going to do anything to change minds in her favor.

Honestly, if you want to crunch the numbers, auto-play is possibly as harmful to society as child abuse. This is because while the individual harm is less, no one is actively trying to stop auto-play videos while entire branches of government are devoted round the clock to preventing and stopping child abuse; so there's a lot more auto-play.

It's kind of like how there's more bio-mass of ants than humans. One ant is a million times times less massive than a human. But there's more than a million times more ants. So if you put both species on a scale, ants would win. Over time, auto-play might do more real damage to the world in nibbles than child abuse does in great, bloody shark bites.

I'm struggling to be a good enough person to see her side, and failing. It's just so hard to comprehend that she didn't know. If she really didn't know, then God help her, she's in a worse place than anyone except the victims themselves. But it's just such a stretch to think that in decades of marriage, with two previous accusations, that she was caught unaware of this.

She's in the exact same sort of denial that senior members of the Roman Catholic Church were in for a very long time ( and I would not be shocked to find out she is a debvout Catholic).

It's not such a huge stretch to think she didn't know.  From what I recall the abuse went on at the school or on trips in hotel rooms, he wasn't bringing kids over to their house.  If she wasn't hanging around with him at work and on work related trips, she may have never been in a position to see any of it.

As far as now goes though, with the preponderance of evidence showing that yes, it did happen, she's just being willfully ignorant in order to try to preserve the positive memories she has of her husband, or she's still reeling from the initial shock and doesn't know which way to go.  Either is understandable.

Please don't take this as a defense of her position because it is wrong, but based on her age she had "Good Wife" blinders on.  Many women of that generation were raised to accept that their husbands had affairs, she probably assumed that the reason she wasn't getting any attention because her husband was off banging college girls.  As long as she had a nice home, nice car, and good standing in the ladies social clubs she didn't care what he did.

Notice how she only started opening her yap once all the key victims had been paid by Penn State over $60 million to sign non-disclosure agreements. She wants you to believe the real story hasn't come out. She's right - it involves more people and is worse than it looks.

According to some of the stories, some of the kids slept in their basement and they said that some of the abuse did happen in that room. It's possible that she never heard any of the abuse, but that doesn't excuse her claims now. If it was just 1 or 2 kids, I could understand some level of denial. But wasn't it 8 people who came forward accusing him of molestation? That's just too many to be brushed aside as false claims and attention grabbers. She's just full on delusional and she needs help.

In order for her to embrace the facts and the verdict, she would essentially need to acknowledge that for decades she was married to monster. Some people could do so; most could not. This is her only path.

Yep.  No idea about her in particular, since I've never met her...but it wouldn't surprise me if she could pass a lie detector test easily.  People believe weirder stuff, with much more (or less) evidence...and for a spouse, a LOT of their self-worth/self-image can be tied up in the marriage...so it's literally self-destructive to an extent in the psychological sense, to believe their spouse is capable of a given heinous act.
