Not the best beers, just the best beers to nerd out on.

Not that any of these beers are bad.

Paste Magazine: The magazine for people buy all of their brown tweed vintage clothing at that store you probably haven't heard of.

I want some wootstout. I just heard about it a few weeks ago. Can't find it anywhere online.

Alas ...

I'm sad that I've never tried it, and probably never will be able to. I'm assuming it's unavailable anywhere near Wisconsin.

I wish I could find it around Houston, it's never in stock. There can't be that many nerds here...

What? No plug tag?

If you haven't had a wootstout don't bother... I drink a lot of different beers make it an effort every time I travel to try something new.  Got my hands on one of those when I was out in Long Beach CA.  It wasn't a horrible beer by all means but when making it they didn't do a good job of giving it flavor.  It has to much of a alcohol taste and nothing to really mask it or make it taste good.

If you want to taste what a wootstout should have been have a Clown Shoes UniDragon Stout.  It has the same alcohol content but you'd never know it because it has plenty of flavor.  As someone who loves beers here are the ones I would recommend for anyone wanting a great dark beer.

1. Ballast Point Victory at Sea - Fantastic coffee beer.  (Easy to come by for the most part)
2. Courage Imperial Russian Stout - Wells & Young's Ltd (Great Imperial, may even be better if you age.)
3. Mrs. Stoutfire - The Bruery (isn't much from the Bruery that isn't good.)
4. Clown Shoes - UniDragon (Once again what wootstout should have been.)
5. Dark Star Porter - BBC Brewery (Easy to find in KY and cheap but taste great, one of the only good things to come from Louisville.)

Should anyone really be excited for a beer ending up on "ten best to nerd out with"? Isn't that kind of a niche category? How many nerd themed beers could their possibly be?

That headline is everything wrong with the world

Stone brewery is insanely overrated....unless you like that tongue-coated-with-pasty-residue feeling after a sip.

It's a bit pointless to include in this list a limited production beer that readers won't be able to buy anymore. That is, unless... do they plan on bringing it back? Please please please, Drew?

Maybe I'm wrong, but if you want taste out of something like w00tstout, it would be best to age it to let the alcohol mellow.  Maybe I'm just missing the whole point of having a beer cellar.  Also, try it at different temperatures, as this will affect the taste too.

To all of you, do not despair for two reasons:
1) You might find it on tap at a time and place you weren't expecting (because this happened to me earlier in the week and now there are 2 growlers of it aging in my beer cellar)...
and 2) they may releasing a new batch for this year.

I had resigned myself to never being able to try W00tstout, but a couple of months ago a local craft beer store had their first "birthday" party. We missed that since I wrote down the wrong date, but we showed up the day after. They had a case that had been in the cellar for a year just for this event apparently. I got 2, my gf and my buddy each got one. It's glorious. I still have one I was saving for this weekend, but ended up not drinking it. Maybe next weekend I'll fix a steak and gorge...
And for anyone on the west coast, swing by Caldera brewery in Ashland, OR. Their Mogli Imperial Stout is fantastic. Not quite W00tstout level, but it's almost always available. We brought 6 large bottles home on our last trip.

Its stuff like this that is the reason i can never quite get 100% behind the anti-bullying campaigns.

'nerding out with nerdy beer' might as well be called 'being a pussy X1000'

I picked up a bottle in January, looked at the 13+‰ ABV, and promptly put it back on the shelf. There seems to be some kind of ABV arms race going on these days... It's hard to find any kind of non imperial limited edition beer

How long do you get an unopened growler to last? Even unopened, they're usually flat in a couple of weeks for me.

We have these things for a reason, people.

If he waxed the top, it can easily go a few months.
