Not all surprising.  I watched a show on garbage in the oceans.  They showed wrappers and junk and the bottom of the deepest places in the world.

TFA says, Malasia Air will fly families to Perth should any objects be confirmed as wreckage from MA370. Why would they do that? Will that make folks less dead?

2014-03-30 01:47:42 PM
Christ, how damn polluted are our oceans if we find lots and lots of large floating debris but no wreckage. Sheesh.

2014-03-30 01:48:00 PM
The search and recover teams have been reduced to glorified sanitation engineers or seawage people.  They should unionize.

It is pretty amazing how much of a mess one tangled fishing line can cause.

If you want to be depressed today, Google "ocean garbage patch" or "garbage gyre"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_garbage_patch

There is one in each ocean, pacific, atlantic, indian.

I'm not saying that if you give a man a fish he will eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish aliens will abduct a 777 airliner.

So i guess the smart guys who worked with NASA to locate the plane by using the Doppler effect on the satellite transmissions were completely wrong?

Ghastly: So none of it was the missing jetsam?

I looked this up and apparently pieces of jet would be flotsam not jetsam, because jetsam is defined as pieces of things voluntarily thrown overboard, whereas flotsam is things involuntarily set adrift on the sea.

Crash another plane and get rid of some of these biatching reletives.

And yet you cannot find a big ole jet.  I can also find water, seaweed and other natural occurring things.   Like many of the uninformed you have no concept of size.  You see a picture of a pipe spewing oil in the gulf and you think the world is ending.  When in reality the amount is infinitesimal compared to the size of the gulf.

Do you realize the largest creature ever to live; the Blue Whale and no one knows its complete life cycle?  I know its tiny compared to the oceans it lives in but in your mind it is gigantic and easy to track.  The world is very large and man's impact pretty small.

Scientist have discovered a star in the center of our solar system responsible for the heating of our planet and man has no control or impact on this star.

Why no, humans have never made any impacts on the world around us. Just ask one of North America's most populous birds in the 19th Century, with one flock so large it took 14 hours to pass over Ontario.

Oh wait, you can't, because we killed them all.

2014-03-30 02:24:52 PM
*pass over ONE SPOT in Ontario, not the whole province.

Point is, humans can and do make a huge impact on our world, and if you don't understand that, you don't exactly understand scale either.

Can't believe they still haven't found that stupid plane. They're using their fancy satellites and sh*t, still nothing.

Can't you get one of those metal detector things I see old farts walking around the beach with all the time for like a hundred bucks? Bam, problem solved.

Idiots.

There are actually two in the Pacific and Atlantic, and one in the Indian. There are 19 smaller gyres as well as the five big ones.

Interesting and absorbing - covers just how are flotsam (and jetsam) travel.{Perhaps worth talking to the sort of folk like Nick Darke... though it's too late to ask him, I'm sad to say.}

matterri: So jetsam turned out to be flotsam?

Flotsam and Jetsam remind me of a story.

In summer 1932 a minor democratic pol and a Democratic mucky muck are riding on the Staten Island Ferry, the whole time the pol is biatching the the state officials aren't doing enough to help his campaign. As the ferry pulls into the slip the mucky muck has had enough and he says pointing to the fotsam and jetsam being pulled into the slip with the Ferry, 'See that shait down there? In November this boat is Governor Roosevelt and that shiat down there is you. Don't worry you're good'

\ Long time ago widows of lost fishermen would throw roses in the sea.
