Of course, there was the strange case of the "clone" site - which is still up, as well.

That was THE place to get surround sound music.

Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here in original quad. Wow.

I've gotten so many "we see what you're doing" notices from MPAA that I stopped grabbing movies. I just wait for cable. But out of print material, music I already bought, I don't feel bad about it.

At this point I've got too much legally obtained entertainment to keep up with to Torrent anymore, but I didn't feel at all bad hopping on the torrents New Year's Day to grab the new Sherlock episodes because PBS couldn't be bothered to air them on the same day. BBC America pretty quickly learned their ratings surged for Doctor Who when they started doing same day broadcasts, but no one else has figured this out yet.

With a global market out there, it just doesn't make sense to stagger TV show releases anymore. Syfy is similarly losing out by not running new Continuum episodes the same day as Showcase.

HOORAY!!!! I missed Demonoid so damn much... It's the best place for "long tail" data. Like old TV shows that you can't buy, and that torrents are dead for in other places. I'm sure it will take a little while to get back to its former glory, but I'm updating my bookmark right the fark now. Kickass torrents wasn't bad, it just wasn't nearly the same. That long tail stuff was usually dead torrents, or nearly dead.

Funny enough, most TV shows that I have getting saved to my DVR I end up torrenting and watching on my Roku or HTPC anyway. I'll probably subscribe to HBO again for Game of Thrones, then end up watching it on torrents. I've paid for it that way AND I get to watch it how I like.

You could always use utorrent, and a proxy service like BTGuard. More than worth the $5/month subscription... I'd imagine.

THIS. I downloaded one item without a proxy - a friend bought Age Of Empires III from GameStop, and they stuck the wrong disc in the case. I downloaded the ISO, to use with his CD key, and got a nasty-gram from Charter about my blatant act of piracy. Yeah. Since Bitguard, not even an eyeblink. I get very good speed downloading my HumbleBundle-purchased games via torrents.

I don't have cable, and I don't torrent, but I've seen every episode of Sherlock and Continuum. I just use Couch Tuner. Warning!: don't go there without ABP, the popups will drive you insane.

I'm very willing to obtain both legally. It just frustrates me when I have to dodge spoilers on Twitter for several weeks because they can't sync up the airing schedules of these shows in multiple countries. It's not that hard.

Demonoid is great for 'this week in music' packs. Get a variety and if anything is interesting, support the artist. Just didn't get that kind of service on TPB.

I've seen this one. In order to defeat Demonoid whose power level is over 9,000, MPAA and RIAA train really hard and are able to merge together to form a single Super Torrent Fighter.

When you take something you have no legal right to, it's theft. You can reason away your moral obligations not to steal by comforting yourself that you didn't deprive someone of their "thing". But you still took something that didn't belong to you and that is stealing.

Peerblock is insufficient though. Peerblock basically just maintains a blacklist of IP's, but your own IP can still be scraped and new IP's would not be on the blacklist. I... know people who have still gotten letters from their ISP while using Peerblock.

A proxy - who is located in another country and doesn't maintain logs - is where it's at. $7/month is a small price to pay considering the safety a proxy service provides. It's a drop in the bucket if you just consider it as a necessary part of your cable/internet bill.

if I steal your car, you can't drive it anymore...because its mine now.  I've taken it away from you.  if I copy your car, you can still drive your car.  I have not deprived you of anything, and you are not missing your car....i've only copied something and i'm now driving about town in it.  I have, however, infringed on your copyright of that car.  its' not theft, it's infringement.
calling file trading 'theft' only makes people think you are stupid.

No, this is the thread for people like me who buy the movies and TV shows on dvd but still download media via torrents to make it more portable and travel friendly in digital formats because Hollyw [d and the RIAA have turned 'fair use' copying into an arcane ritual.

no dude. you need to VPN out so your ISP can't shape profile your packets. you need to proxy off that to protect your vpn company. and a static, non-updated bluetack-1 installed into your torrent client (so you don't forget to enable PB) will prevent you from talking to the biggest bad guys searching for IP...the vpn will drop occasionally so the proxy comes into play. there's no PB to drop, though, since it's part of your torrent client. everyone's safe. everyone's happy except the lawyers/record companies/etc., and it's pretty much like the internet of the late 90's again.
