That kid is freaking adorable. And I had no idea the first fossil found in this country was a wooly mammoth tooth in SC in 1725.

"Why not? It can't hurt anything," Ridgeway said. "But the benefit to this is to the children and young people of South Carolina, letting them realize that they do have a say-so in what happens in South Carolina and, No. 2, it gives them experience and information about the governmental process and legislative process in South Carolina."

With the added side benefit of showing those young people what incredible assholes the republicans have in their ranks.

Fair, who has compared the President to Osama Bin Laden, helped to block funding for a rape crisis center, called climate change a hoax, and blocked evolution from the state's science standards, saying "I don't have a problem with teaching theories. I don't think it should be taught as fact," stood up for Biblical representation in the state fossil-after all, what's science without Jesus?

Bryant proposed an amendment to the bill to include a passage from Genesis explaining the Biblical creation of life-because why not?

What we have here is just another example of liberals taking a few fringe, powerless backwoods extremist whackos with no influence, and blowing them up as if they were representative of the views of mainstream Christians who create policy.

Really, liberals. You should be ashamed.

Nonsense.

Anyone with any Biblical knowledge knows that predates the creation of the Universe by at least a century.

These Republicans are what you tacitly support whenever you vote for a Republican in your own districts for anything, even dog catcher. You're voting for an asshole that looks at the party that is full of these shiatbags and decides "I wanna be associated with that."

No matter how sane your guy seems, he is down for that. Electing him puts more Republicans in public office and puts them in a position to gather more money. Just like electing your seemingly sane (he isn't) representative to the House is actually voting to keep the likes of Boehner and Cantor in power.

I was really hoping this was just an exaggeration typical to political blogger posts...but nope, apparently the local GOP types are really hard core badasses when it comes to protecting their bible based beliefs.  they'll gladly (and gleefully) crush this kids dreams, then tell her to pray to jesus for forgiveness afterwards.

I know I should probably be outraged at conservative assholes acting like assholes but it's just far too ridiculous. Two state officials being offended and feeling their faith threatened by the request of an eight year old is just out and out hilarious.

Why do Christians want  the government to acknowledge their religion?  Are they worried God will be mad if the state has an official fossil?  So they placate God by making sure he is mentioned in the fossil bill?

"I was sooo going to smite you people but then you mentioned me in your bill, so for now, you will remain un-smoten"  said God.  Apparently.

I was going to make some snarky comment on how the repugs might be more amiable towards a raptor fossil (cuz jeebus rode one to school), but then I read TFA and learned that this particular fossil has a history behind it.

Even the dumbest retard party in my country* looks good when compared with the GOP.

Until the Republicans call out the extremists in their own party and disavow their crazy-ass ideas, then the GOP is fairly blamed for those views.

I'm not even sure what their objection is. Isn't it still a fossil regardless of whether someone believes in God or not? Are they refuting the existence of the fossil in question? Simply making it the state fossil isn't pro-evolution, it's just acknowledging the existence of a fossil that was found in the state.
