FTA: "Video of the rescue shows several workers attempting to pull the bull out and at one point, the animal tries to get back in the water. "

It's worse than my goddamned Roomba for heading right back where it was stuck.

Ha! I love that once they get the bull out of the pond, one of the responders is like "watch out, she's going to kick!" so the idiot filming immediately moves to start shooting from DIRECTLY BEHIND the bull.

God, I love Florida.

On one hand,  don't people get arrested for calling 911 for non-emergencies?  On the other hand,  I always assumed the lengths rescue services went to, to save animals like that was partially for practice.

A prize bulls' semen can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. It is unlikely a farmer would keep a bull that was not a money maker, they're not particularly pet like and beef and dairy farmers aren't a sentimental bunch. In a small rural community it isn't at all unlikely that a deputy be aware of the animals value, at least in a general sense. This could direct her actions out of genuine altruism, or more likely because cash contribution might be in order.

Ok, I'm confused.  Was the bull the one wearing the white shirt or was that the deputy?

Its central florida, we have to have news like this to distract you from the every day variety.

Cops are generally trying to be good people, but are hardwired to use violence first.

That's not generally a problem. Do you really want cops with a default of "flight" when it's scary? Sure, they might avoid showing up, but but once they're there they are there and someone's going to jail or the morgue. Cops are very mission oriented.

In this case, that lady would have been fine without two snipers on back up, but the mission is save a cow and you've got the rifles anyway and there's gators around.... it's an excuse to dust off the rifles and maybe even get some plinking in.

texdent:

mmm... I'm gonna go with "anywhere you deal with livestock." *anybody* who has dealt with large animals can tell you stories about how A) they are really freakin' stupid, and B) you can sort of depend on them to do things that work against their best interests. And they're bigger than you are, so their stupidity wins.

/ not that I'm bitter, mind you...
// fark you, Cindarella the horse.

"Drowning"?  If it survived, it didn't drown.  This was a "near-drowning".
