One thing the article didn't know was that Stallone told UA he would rather bury the script in his backyard than let one of their choices play Rocky.

/and yeah, Susan Sarandon was too hot to be Adrian. Adrian couldn't be obviously hot.

That's odd. I find Talia Shire far more attractive than Sarandon.

I'm calling bullshiat on this one.  While Susan Sarandon is a much better actress than Talia Shire, I'm guessing her looks had nothing to do with it, rather it was entirely based on nepotism.

One could argue that "On The Waterfront" was the first boxing movie that won an Oscar.   Well it coulda been a contender, it coulda been somebody instead of a bum, which is what I am.

Maybe that, and the fact that Susan Sarandon is an unattractive, annoying, opinionated coont.

The younger version Susan Sarandon has a nice set of tits. But Eva Amurri's tits are even better.

I read somewhere that Carrie Snodgress(an Academy award nominee) was offered the Adrian role but turned it down because it would only pay $50,000.  That's pride farking with you, fark pride.

Did supporting cast get a % or straight up pay?

I think the facts are a little mixed up. It's true that during filming, Stallone yelled Adrian and Susan Sarandon appeared to come running. But that was after the director had already cut, and Susan Sarandon wasn't even on set. That was actually Stallone's pet bloodhound, Adrian. But here's the twist - Adrian had puppies with a dog named Rocky, who later turned out to be Tim Robbins in costume. The true story was revealed after Robbins got sent to Shawshank animal shelter, where he befriended an old black lab. The evil "warden" of Shawshank almost had Robbins put down there after framing him for a bite. The whole thing later became the plot for Beethoven............'s 9th symphony. You can't make this stuff up.

I think everyone was on salary, which is why the studio loved the movie so much: $2 million to make and everything after was pure profit.

"Rocky" was okay, but there are plenty other boxing flicks that are as good or better.  "The Set-Up", "Body and Soul", "Requiem for a Heavyweight", "Fat City", "The Great White Hope"....

Several members of Stallone's family were involved in the making of the film. His father plays the man who rings the bell to start a round, his brother plays a street singer and his first wife, Sasha, was the productions stills photographer.

When United Artists offered to buy Stallone's script they were not interested in him playing the lead, preferring to cast an established star like Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, James Caan or Burt Reynolds

Of the above, only Reynolds (with a massive amount of training), and maybe Caan (likewise), could possibly pull off playing a heavyweight boxer.

I think Caan was actually a boxer before he became an actor.  The problem with James Caan in the 1970s would have been the budget to grom his shoulder hair!

No kidding!  He was like a slim version of George 'The Animal' Steele.

I'm thinking it more that Talia Shire was easier to make "frumpy" looking than Sarandon.  Also, if Burt Young was already cast as Paulie, Talia looks more like she could be his sister than Susan Sarandon does.
