"Coffee smoking becoming popular among teens"

No, it's not.
Not this time the media says it, or the last time the media was saying it, and probably not the next time it's said either.

I'll be damned if I'm to live in a society where teenagers walk around dizzy and have trouble breathing, not on my watch. Coffee, illegalize it.

So this is like that knockout game, in that it's not a thing at all other than the media says so.
Except this won't become a thing because kids can just get coffee flavored shisha

Most (like the ones in the pic) use very high quality tobaccos mixed with a bit of finely ground cloves. They "crackle" when you draw on them.

Hell, those sound like the kind of side effects people look for in a substance to abuse.

Coincidentally, a high school friend of mine actually used to smoke a mixture of cloves (not cigarettes, actual for-cooking cloves) and coffee out of a pipe.  He also mixed in some other cooking herb (not oregano or any of the usual suspects) that helped the thing get a nice cherry going.  Said the mix made him get a little buzz, yet was not too hard on the lungs.

You know how smokers sometimes smell... well... gross?  That sort of old smoke and insecticide odor?  This guy smelled like the polar opposite of that.  Like coffee and seasoned lamb and smoke used to cure something.

American Spirit used to produce a specialty blend that included, among other things, spearmint leaf. Reportedly, it tasted like smoking candy canes, but smelled like skunk weed. It was pulled pretty quickly for obvious reasons.

Erowid has two poorly written reports on coffee smoking. I don't know if this is a real phenomenon and the teens just can't write, or if the practice is something a few people try once and talk incessantly about.

I'm reminded of the crusade to prevent kids from huffing glue. First the crusaders had to tell everyone they could get high huffing model cement, which was news to the masses of kids who might be interested.

I don't know how 'the kids' are doing it (warning hipsterish) but when I have to do nightshift work, I like to blend some dark roast Sumatran or Ethiopian grounds (fresh, coarse) in with Camels.  Not as much caffeine as a Central American bean but definitely tastier.  Fast caffeine hit and smells like fresh-roasted coffee.  Been doing it for a few years.

/my lawn, get off it.

Heh, all good. Yeah, there's a good bit. I still love the drag on one occasionally to reminisce about the goth club days of long ago. It wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it.

could've been rosemary or thyme.  both are used to season lamb, and are comparatively cheap.

I was more referring to the smell of the cloves.  Some lamb (what most people would call mutton) is seasoned with cloves and served with mint jelly.

Actually, it might have been mint, or sage.  Either is quite smoke-able (being in the Salvia family) and would smell pretty decent.
