mistrmind: All the lights are on in my house.
taurusowner: I they marketed this as a "let's just conserve our fuel/power sources to save money and resources thing" a lot more people would be on board. But tying it to a leftist political platform lost them a good portion of people who would otherwise be all for it. I recycle, use energy saving bulbs, low water toilets, and have most of my computer stuff attached to smart UPSs that conserve power much better than I could. But I will also be turning all of my lights and stuff on at that time as well. Not to say "fark the environment" but to say "fark you" to all the people who want me to buy into their political BS as a way for them to take more of my liberty and choice.I use those energy saving bulbs because I choose to. But you can bet that if I were ever forced to, I would instead use as many incandescent bulbs as I can manage. Forced virtue is no virtue.
ReapTheChaos: "switch off non-essential lights and other electronic items for an hour"How exactly is this supposed to do anything? People shouldn't have non essential lights/electronic items on to begin with.

netcentric: I think this is perfect for Chicago (and many other cities) they can 'talk' about environmentalism but actually do very little. They will dump about 100 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere just from their airport.Chicago.........not the place where any environmentalism happens.
