I had a music teacher in high school who insisted there was no such thing as a young republican.  Like they were closeted liberals or something.

2014-03-29 05:10:30 PM
Well, it's not like the republicans care about us. At least the Dems play lip service to our needs (student loans, lack of jobs and underemployment). Not to say the Dems will solve these issues, but at least they're not concerning themselves with my reproductive rights.

Lesser of two evils in the United States.

The Democractic party doesn't (usually) support the stripping of American religious and civil liberties, the violation of rights to privacy and freedom from illegal search, corporate personhood and religious rights, outright corporate welfare, unfair taxation of the underprivledged, racism and xenophobic isolationism, outright nationalism and American exceptionalism, or the idea that people should die from lack of basic healthcare.

Oh. And they don't believe who you love should determine your rights.

I was a young Republican. And Mormon. And, oh yes, very-much a closeted homosexual.

And now I'm a music teacher. Weird.

The only young Republicans I know are all libertarians, and most haven't thought much about it beyond legalizing marijuana. Those who have thought more about it are Ayn Rand fans. And for some reason they're usually guys.

Only young female Republicans I've known were just parroting what their church told them about politics.

Personally, I'm torn. I know of three people who died in Iraq (two from bombs, one from suicide due to lack of post-service healthcare caused by budget cuts), spent 3 years completely underemployed after graduating due to the global financial meltdown caused by bubble economics and massive deregulation, know a good number of people (both friends and family) who can't get health insurance due to Indiana's teatard governor declining the Medicaid expansion, have a great number of gay friends who are socially ostracized for sport, and have experienced first hand what happens when hyper-religious bullcrap condones treating young people who don't believe like crap.

But on the other, Obama wears mom jeans.

I guess I'm undecided.

If I remember correct (and I very well may not) if the voting demographic information is correct young voters won't vote for anyone. They love to talk about who they would vote for but when it comes to Election Day it's just too much trouble to put down the xbox controller.

What farking country do you live in?

The right to keep and bear arms is a civil liberty, the Democrats shiat all over it at every opportunity.  Obama and the Democrats virtually ALL renewed PATRIOT, and 7 of the top 10 donors to political parties were to Democrats in 2013.

Idiots.

Ayn Rand tended to write rapey. Might be why she doesn't have that many female fans. Also explains why young Republican men like her so much.

So which party should I vote for then?

2014-03-29 07:14:03 PM
Yeah... I'm in my 40s, and if I do vote (which I think is mostly useless at the national level, but has some merit at the local and state level) I will probably vote for the most liberal candidates and policies available, and they still won't be liberal enough as the word "liberal" means "centrist" these days in America, and the word "conservative" means "damn near totalitarian and probably completely selfish."

My point exactly. We don't have any actual liberals anymore. We have centrists who bow to the plutocrats, and we have religious radicals that bow to the plutocrats.

Republicans hate Americans and the United States. Their sole goal is to destroy the country from within, to make Americans so mentally, physically, and economically weak, that they couldn't possibly put up a fight. They work for a hidden interest, an their policies serve China and Russia better than the average American. Republicans want bathe in the blood of dead Americans with no apology, no recompense, no regret.

Republicans hate us. They hate Americans.

Always found this a strange ding on the President when the right points out he renewed the Patriot Act. I mean I get that it's suppose to enrage me because he did and it does. But, why does the right not give him credit for it?

Kinda like how everything is his "Katrina". I wonder if they understand that trying to label a screw up as "being like Katrina" is admitting how much of a screw up the efforts taken by bush inc. were?

I was getting my big ice tea at the quick trip last week and the girl (about 20 I'd guess) was elated that they were going to start charging five cents for plastic bags. "Save the environment!", she glowed.

On the off chance she might vote I felt obligated to tell her the truth.

"Tiffany you ignorant slut. That's a tax increase. If they really wanted to save the environment they would require biodegradable bags. But they didn't now did they."
