I'm assuming Arthur Bryant's is a chicken and waffles joint?

*googles*

Ah. BBQ. Close enough.

apologize for the misunderstanding

unfortunately the letter suggested that this event was only open to African-American students

You farking wanker, there was no misunderstanding and the letter did not "suggest" anything. It said it.  And fark the ACLU for covering for the school district.

2014-03-29 04:34:28 PM
Yep, this was a stupid idea.

I dig the idea of doing school outings so that kids can see what their culture is all about, but it shouldn't have been limited to only black kids.  If a white/asian/hispanic kid wants to pony up the cash to learn about black culture, more power to them.

So, yeah.  Thanks for being part of the problem, assholes.

2014-03-29 04:35:34 PM
I am white.  I love chicken and waffles.  They taste good.  Why cant we agree on that?

Where is Jesse Jackson's outrage? Racism is wrong, and I look forward to hearing from him soon.

And fark the ACLU.

So the trip excluded Successful and Attractive Caucasus Americans?

I hate these "we apologize for the misunderstanding" apologies when there is no "misunderstanding".

YOU farkED UP, APOLOGIZE FOR MAKING A BAD DECISION AND MOVE ON.

2014-03-29 04:37:54 PM
So not only was it racist against other races (Look. Look at the infamous white persecution in the thread), it was racist against African Americans for playing on a stereotype.

Brilliant.

dj_bigbird: And fark the ACLU for covering for the school district.

FTFA:Doug Bonney, legal advisor for the area ACLU, said inviting only African-American sophomores and juniors is discriminatory based on race. He said he didn't think any ill will was meant.

Reality doesn't agree with your sentiments.

2014-03-29 04:38:36 PM
I was going to post a long-winded argument about the difference between "open to" and "open for" and the various meanings of "suggested", but at the end of the day, I suspect the teacher organizing this really wanted it to be a "black empowerment" field trip, and the school should have known better. They done goofed. At least they quickly made it clear/changed course about it being open to all students.

The ACLU didn't cover for them, they said it was discriminatory. The guy also commented that he didn't think any ill-will was meant and that can be true too, one existing doesn't mean the other can't.

How the hell did you get that out of this:

Doug Bonney, legal advisor for the area ACLU, said inviting only African-American sophomores and juniors is discriminatory based on race. He said he didn't think any ill will was meant.

He agreed it was discrimination and said no ill will was meant.
Based on the article, I'm in agreement with him. I don't think I would have been interested in going as a white student. Hell, I wouldn't be interested in going now.

2014-03-29 04:40:06 PM
This is about like my sons school focusing on teaching only about African-Americans historical figures over every other group. Every month he is talking about a new African-American. Why the hell is a 2nd grader studying about Jackie Robinson. I wouldn't mind so much if they would also teach about famous women, and OTHER minorities, but Asians, Hispanics, etc are completely ignored.

2014-03-29 04:40:27 PM

atomicmask: On the inverse side, that school probably had its most peaceful and productive day in about 50 years while this field trip was going on.

But don't you dare suggest he's a racist, folks.

Jesse Jacksons outrage may be a while, since the school district may be behind in their *Ahem* payments.

Except they haven't actually told the students that. They haven't made an announcement, they haven't passed out more invitations... According to the video, they only said that to the news station.

Just because it was well-meant and ultimately thoughtless doesn't mean it wasn't ALSO discriminatory. Something doesn't have to be overt hateful racism to be discrimination, you know.

This
It is as important for white kids to see some of the great things accomplished by blacks as it is for black kids to see them. If only blacks are aware of the contributions of others of their race it causes a rift, as they see their people/culture as valuable and contributing and people such as atomicmask see them as just disruptive.

atomicmask: I wash them in white guilt tears, you guys are giving that stuff away for free when you really need to be charging for it.

I'm a wop. You white folks were blaming me for spreading communism and taking your jobs before it was popular to hate on the Hispanics.

"So we are planning an outing open to our African-American sophomores and juniors," she wrote.

"The Olathe South administration would like to apologize for the misunderstanding," according to a district statement.

Uh huh.  Yup.  Blame the victims because they didn't understand the phrasing "open to our "group x", and the letter was not sent to everyone.

If that said "So we are planning an outing open to our white sophomores and juniors", then other races would have to accept that that was just THEM misunderstanding, and it is their fault for being offended.

Go fark yourself.  Seriously.  You are in charge of ensuring students get a proper education, and reading comprehension is part of that.  Now you want to turn around and insult the intelligence of those under your care so you can make sure you ass smells like roses?  You are maliciously incompetent and doing a disservice to the kids you are supposed to help have a better future.  You are absolutely disgusting human beings for covering your own asses rather than helping kids get the tools they need to succeed in life.

Yeah my biggest biatch is how the ACLU acted like it wasn't a big deal, if it were a white group they would have expressed how outrageous and idiotic this was then have 45 press conferences to drum up donations because of all the important work they do.

Like most organizations, they are a shell of what they once were.

Arguably, it might have been even more beneficial to the non-black students. If a few kids said "Damn. Black people had to put up with some shiat." Well, it seems like it would be a good thing.

Ahh, the Eye-talians, the Mexicans of Europe.

I am Sicilian, Colombian, spanish jew,  with a negress in the woodpile.  I feel I am allowed to hate equally.

George Zimmerman got declared white which grandfathered all hispanics into being caucasians.

Clearly you have never went to an inner city school, because they are disruptive.

You do not think black kids know who rosa parks, MLK, and george washington carver is? Every febuary they hear about these three. What they need to hear about are guys like Neil Degrasse Tyson, smart people who happen to be black, not black people who happen to be smart. They need to change the black culture, from celebrating ignorance and worship of destruction to one of hard work and perseverance, but they will never change as long as we continue to go "look, you was ONCE capable of doing some good shiat...arn't you proud?"

I doubt there are more than 20 African-Americans in all of Olathe and more than 50 in the whole county.  They were just trying to save money.

It's not his fault. He's ex-chair force. They indoctrinated the fundamentalist, pants-pissing fear of minorities and non-Christians into him from day one.

Let's see, a field trip
... include a visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the American Jazz Museum, lunch at Arthur Bryant's and then a visit to the Nelson-Atkins Art Gallery to see the "History and Hope: Celebrating the Civil Rights Movement" exhibit.

I bet if white kids went on this trip you would have a whole bunch complaining that it was a waste of time (except Arthur Bryants which is world class BBQ), how retarded all the sights were, and some expressing outright racism.

I guess what they should have done is to have 2 trips and let the students choose. Maybe 1 with some lame-ass white stuff (corn-cob museum or whatever) and 1 with the black themes.

2014-03-29 04:56:44 PM
Wasn't it a few years ago in Alabama, someone asked for a White History month and it got shot down? Not because blacks were excluded, actually all were invited - but it was apparently offensive. I do remember a Black history class in high school, however interestingly it wasn't available to "all students".

Home Ec or ROTC is what I could remember. (fark you who had shop or mechanics class)

2014-03-29 04:56:45 PM
It's ok, he white kids got to tour a couple of factories that day. I believe it was manufacturers of saltines and duck calls.

The only thing they did wrong was limit the outing to only black kids.  If they'd said "Anyone with the cash can come along", this never would have made the news even if the entire group turned out to be exactly the same kids as now.

That's a long-winded way of saying "Atomicmask can't even do basic research before opening his mouth about anti-white discrimination"

A simple admission of you were wrong would have been enough.
