Derwood: The CTA has to have cut about 75% of their work force in the past 20 years. When I was in Chicago going to college (mid-90's), every train had a "driver", plus another person collecting tokens/transfers and operating the doors. They also had actual ticket/token booths with real people. now they've cut the booths (for automated machines), and I'm pretty sure the driver is the only person on each train.

The trains in Melbourne Australia got rid of their ticket collectors and most of the station staff.  Crime at a few stations got so bad they need full time police and the government just spent about $450 million building small little police stations at every single train station where they will have two police working from 6 pm to the last train.  There would have been cheaper ways to not need to reenforce their police state mentality.

Well, at least now we know where the problem started. He just saved us months of legwork.

ManRay: We have driverless trains in ATL. Maybe O'Hare would like to look into those after this?

We do?
