Whar is your Ducklord now?

Well, I guess not everyone was happy when Phil's TRUE colors showed. I didn't mind the whole religious aspect of the show, hell, it's Northern Louisiana. But, racism and homophobia? No thanks. And don't give me that "well they are religious/from the south what do you expect" line. I know Christians out there who aren't like that, albeit, they are hard to find.

While everyone will probably want to attribute this to the stupidity that came from the one guy, let's be realistic here... It's had five "seasons" and probably 60 episodes or so... The joke has been beaten into the ground and the show would probably have started dropping viewers at this point whether one of the cast members had made homophobic remarks or not.

Reality shows don't exactly have the longest shelf lives.

1. Shows lose viewers the longer it goes on. This is an established Hollywood fact
2. Cable companies would still kill for the ratings its still getting. It might not be as popular as it once was, but it is still pulling strong numbers.

My dad was one such Christian. Hell, he even made peace with the Catholics, which considering his background (Waldensian) was a major step for him.

Yup. I used to watch. Last season they started whoring themselves out way too much (Uncle Si "buy me some Rolos" followed by 'this episode brought to you by Rolos')

Nobody who watched the show was surprised to find that Phil is a dogmatic dick - he's never even tried to hide that.

Duck Dynasty committed the only unforgivable sin for a TV show - it got boring

Oh good.  Now we can get other quality shows like "Down Under".  The charming story of a team of water & sewage workers from Australia that come to the US to find their fortunes.  Working the sewers they search for lost and rare artifacts that find their way beneath America's cities.

"You can't believe what you'll find...Down Under".

Oh shiat...what have I done.

Despite all the lows this season and the finale results, that still leaves the controversial series as the top show on cable in viewers and among adults 18-49 and the second highest rated show on all of TV last night

Not really.

This is what I was saying in action. Almost any attention is good for business in the entertainment economy. If I opened a real Nazi themed restaurant called "Adolf's Oven" with dishes like Rabbi Rib Eye Roast and "Anne" Franks, it would be protested so hard I might by lynched. But if I put the same restaurant on TV, it would be insanely popular as a show with people who hate it. Ratings go up the more offensive you are. It's the Jersey Shore formula.

But apathy? Apathy is TV poison. No one talks about you, ratings drop, you're gone. Next.

So Phil's "true colors" were probably a last ditch effort to save the franchise. And it worked for a bit.

2014-03-29 08:37:33 AM
The reality is, their show had already peaked. Fans were already complaining that season 4 wasn't very good before the controversy happened, and the show got way overexposed during the holiday season -- there was merchandise  everywhere.

When you combine all of that with the manufactured outrage that occurred (and let's be honest -- it  was manufactured by GLAAD to enhance its fundraising efforts and stoked by A&E to keep the show in the news), Duck Dynasty ceased to be the curiosity it once was and lost its guilty pleasure status. When casual fans of a show have to start defending their reasons for watching it, it's going to lose viewers.

Sorry, it's not that perfectly logical explaination. Reality show audiences losing interest like the ADHD morons they are? No, that can't be it.

It must because the bearded fake rednecks on the show are religious and don't like gay people. That fits my bias much better so it must be true.

I read that another one of the Robertson clan recently made some new bigoted remarks and I just chuckled. They know their 15 minutes are at the 14:59:59 mark and they're getting desperate to stay relevant by making more idiotic comments.

If they weren't so GOD DAMN GREEDY with all of their merchandizing, they could have kept this gravy-train of their moving along for years like KISS does, but no, they just had to put their names on EVERYTHING and now even the bloated hillbillies at the Walmarts are getting tired of seeing tons upon tons of Duck Dynasty garbage everywhere they look.

I think it's part of it -- knowing what a horrifyng bigot Phil is and then learning his kids were clean-shaven yuppies before the show began probably drove off some of the people just tuning in to laugh at the hayseeds.  But I don't think it's the main cause of it all.  It's all part of the Circle of Crap that governs all "reality" TV -- people get tired of it eventually and move along.

When the bottom finally drops out from underneath this DD racket, there's going to be a lot of companies out there taking a bath with all of their unsellable DD garbage that the trailer-trash don't even want anymore. It'll certainly eat up a lot of the profit they had made in the prior years, that's for sure.

Expect to see kids in some African country wearing Duck Commander pants to go with their Denver Broncos Superbowl shirts, guzzling Duck Commander wine with their stale Duck Dynasty Christmas cookies.

I love RM. I'm not big into fishing, but I usually learn something while watching the show. My son is starting to get in to animals, "fih" in particular. (He's 22 months old.)

The Japanese salamander episode was cool.

Phil reminds me a lot of my paternal grandfather. An unyielding, bigoted asshole.

1. It was all over the news.  Do your own homework.
2. Ratings are a non-scientific way of tracking popularity of this show, a drop in its ratings could indicate people are either tired of the schtick or the shiat.

Last time i was in Walmart i saw the official duck dynasty diaper bag on sale for the low low price of $29.99. It was done up in duck pattern camo. They even had one in pink duck camo presumably for if you had a girl baby.

Not surprising, they have over saturated the market with all the junk they put there names on.  They will muddle along for a few more seasons with "average to above average" cable ratings till they actually get bored of it or one of their kids gets in real deep do do, which you know will happen.

You may not have heard - The Duck Commander 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway on April 6th.  Ain't nothin' more 'Murican than that, son.  One of the local radio stations was advertising luxury box tickets at $500 per seat for that race.

I don't like the over-saturation either, but "they" say: when it's summer, make hay. That's what they're doing. I can't fault them for that, but at some point it crossed over from making hay to completely ridiculous.
