Fishing boat my ass.

real_headhoncho: Apparently they already sent it back.

From your link:   The two sides have been technically at war ever since, as the fighting ended with a truce, not a treaty.

People are DYING...with fair regularity.  I don't think there is anything TECHNICAL about it.

How hard could it be to kill the fat squint-eyed little tyrant? Why hasn't anyone?

I suspect the fear is his army officers might JUST be crazy enough to unleash the barbarian horde (complete with their chemically and possibly nuclear tipped artillery shells) due south in retaliation.  He may be crazy, but sometimes you need crazy to keep crazy in check.

Part of me wishes exactly that would happen for the Armageddon that the west would unleash against them in retaliation. I don't appreciate my life being threatened, as NK does with regularity. I'd feel a little safer and a little more confident in my government if NK no longer existed.

Just evacuate Seoul and put the Norks out of their misery once and for all.

Personally I think we are ignoring a situation worse than the holocaust, maybe not in numbers but in sheer human misery.

They totally didn't defect. That would be bad for folks back north.

Having those guns and stuff pointed at Seoul is about the only thing the North has to really threaten the South with.  I would suspect that any attempt to evac Seoul would be view by the North as a 1st step to an attack by the South and giving they know they would lose might end up just ordering the attack before Seoul could be evac all the way.

Exactly. As bloody and horrible as an all-out war would be, I'm not convinced it's the wrong thing to do.

It would be unkind not to; that's 20% of their navy with 10% of their national strategic petroleum reserve in the gas tank.

Plus that's a LOT of farking people to relocate. It's not some mountain village in Appalachia, you're talking about half of their country having to be moved out of range.

Subby:  North Korea has a long habit of infiltrating commandos into SK.  They once tried to assassinate the SK government in session this way once.

There's no farking way SK is going to ignore a NK vessel in their waters.  They could just be sending in fishing boats like this to test SK response times and methods.

Really, really hard. Little tyrants tend to spend most of their time and energy on making sure their bodyguards are loyal and numerous. Short of dropping a smart bomb on him (which would not be kosher without a casus belli), it's virtually impossible to assassinate a guy like that. That's why Saddam Hussein, Khaddafy, Castro, etc. stayed alive and in power so long.
