Yeah... that's because the brighter the moon, the more people that go out.  Nobody likes to go out on a dark and stormy night.  The more people out, the more crazies there are out.  Hoc ergo prompter telemundo.

It's was my experience when working in a convenience store that there's a greater effect during a new moon.  So much so that I would check the calendar on those nights and sure enough, a vast majority of the time, it was within a night of a new moon.

/Sub-concious confirmation bias, likely.

You can see it in the classroom, too. I never understood the big deal about "Full Moon Friday" until I experienced it. Kids were freaking bonkers.

anyone who ever spent time working with the insane or MR could tell you that

All I'm saying is that smart dispatchers try to make sure their nights off coincide with full moons that fall on Fridays or Saturdays. Especially in the summer. And you consider killing off a family member for bereavement leave if you're scheduled to work on a Full Moon Friday the 13th during a warm month.

I'd feel better if there were some numbers... some kind of, say, study. At least tell me two skinny dudes in white lab coats asked people questions.

M-O-O-N, that spells crazy!

A full moon reflects more light back at the earth.  It's still dark enough to hide easily, but light enough that you can navigate around, and more effectively sneak up on people.  That's why the Allies waited for a full moon, before launching the Normandy Invasion, because they thought it was crucial for the success of the paratroopers.  It is reasonable that we look at a full moon, and the hunting part of our brain wants to stay out later, even though modern electric light makes such a need unnecessary.  I don't however believe that a full moon makes people more crazy, it just means more people will be out at night, including more crazy people.  The moon itself is just a big shiny bulb reflecting light back towards the earth, it is people who decide what lunacy they will do with said light.

True.

CSB -

I knew a guy who worked at the EIgin IL mental hospital back when it was a huge complex with lots of inmates. He said there were people in there that had no idea whether it was day or night let alone what day it was.

He said every full moon without fail they all went "extra crazy".

I heard if you see a car at night with their headlights off and you flash your headlights at them they will follow you and assault you as part of a gang initiation.

You dumbf*cks.

Here is just one of the many examples that this is the myth of the shiat which ejects of the bull:

Abstract
To determine if there is any effect of the full moon on emergency department (ED) patient volume, ambulance runs, admissions, or admissions to a monitored unit, a retrospective analysis of the hospital electronic records of all patients seen in an ED during a 4-year period was conducted in an ED of a suburban community hospital. A full moon occurred 49 times during the 4-year study period. There were 150,999 patient visits to the ED during the study period, of which 34,649 patients arrived by ambulance. A total of 35,087 patients was admitted to the hospital and 11,278 patients were admitted to a monitored unit. No significant differences were found in total patient visits, ambulance runs, admissions to the hospital, or admissions to a monitored unit on days of the full moon. The occurrence of a full moon has no effect on ED patient volume, ambulance runs, admissions, or admissions to a monitored unit.

Huh. The couple of nurses I know who work at Western Psych Hospital say it's not true - they see more people right before and right after they get their checks.
