Who would want to watch a video of the guy dying?

RIP Admiral Denton.  I couldn't have disagreed more with your politics but I respect your service and sacrifice.

She's an old lady that nobody thinks about anymore.

Blinking "torture" in morse code is impressive.  Anything more than "SOS" is too hard for me.

I wouldn't cal her a heroine with us libtards... more like she's some dumb coont that convinced Ted Turner to get hitched to her for a while (and did the totally-racist "tomahawk chop" in the stands during one of the Atlanta Braves World Series runs). Sure, she's one of the libbiest libs who ever libbed, but at least us semi-intelligent libs realize that she is on on the extremely-deep end of the liberal pool, and are doing our best to stay out of that end of the pool (since most of the libs who are swimming in that end of the pool are as retarded as the Republitards who are swimming in the deep end of the GOP pool).

that is frequently misunderstood. Hitler didn't use Morse code not just because it was developed by a Jew, Shlomo Morse. But because it fit the language a little better since German has some additional characters.

FTA "Denton ... was perhaps best known for his seven and seven month interment by the North Vietnamese... He was held with other senior captured U.S. fliers, including U.S. vice-presidential candidate Vice Adm. James Stockdale."

Seven & Seven? That is torture.

/fun fact: the North Vietnamese also captured our Vice-presidential nominee.

The South Park guys once said that they "hate conservatives, but that they farking hate liberals."  They then went on to explain in their point of view, anyone who is far to the right or left is the same person.  Some obnoxious know it all, who thinks they know what is best for everyone else, and wants the government to force that person into behaving that way.  When I heard them say this, I realized it was how I really felt all along.

Wrong. She's what I thought of first when I saw the news of Denton's death. I puke when I see her name in the dvr guide. And I guarantee I'm to the left of you politically.

"Liberal" doesn't mean communist or fascist. It means fair treatment for all.

I've been saying it in different terms on fark for a while now.  Liberal that leans so far to that extreme end comes around full circle and is the same as the staunch conservative zealots they're supposedly against.

Same assholes, different tastes is all.

One wants to outlaw chocolate ice cream, and the other wants to outlaw vanilla ice cream.

Actually, she's more of a "heroine" to the Right, since hating her prevents them from having to do any deep thinking about the myriad ways our own overseas intervention can go wrong.  coughIraqcough

It wasn't Jane's fault that we tried to prop up a corrupt Catholic regime in a 95% Buddhist country, or thought we could win a war by remaining on the defensive, or tried to bring down bridges with 250 lb. bombs...munitions we'd learned were ineffective for the purpose back in WW2.

No it isn't.

There are specific Morse characters for umlauted letters in German.  I had to learn them at Fort Devens (dittybopper school).  I learned Eastern European Morse, so naturally they sent me to Hawaii where I spent my time copying Asian stations instead.

The guy had the stones, when put on display by the North Vietnamese, to blink the word "TORTURE" in Morse code.

Whatever else he may have done, that alone takes giant brass balls.

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: I met Admiral Denton and Captain Jerry Coffee (a fellow former-POW) at the Barbers Point NAS chapel, about 30 years ago. Both men were very inspirational and charismatic speakers. I thought they were wonderful people.

What year exactly was that?  I was stationed on Schofield from 86 to 89.  I'd hate to think I missed the chance to see him when I was a Morse code interceptor.

It was either 1981 or '82. Captain Jerry Coffee still lives in Aiea, near Pearl Harbor.

You may remember in the book "When Hell was in Session", Admiral Denton mentioned a Vietnamese Catholic priest who worked for the communists. Captain Coffee showed us a rosary and crucifix given to him by that priest, that he said gave him not only spiritual comfort, but also physical relief. He found that he could use it as a lock-pick in the privacy of his cell to remove his handcuffs. I had to give him a CSC (Cool Story, Cap'n) for that one.
