I hate tailgaters way more than I hate people who take one hand off the wheel to film tailgaters. Also, if you have a turn coming up, you have a legitimate reason to be in the left lane.

WTF is it with drivers of those huge pickups driving them like they're tiny sports cars? Jesus farking Christ people, why do you stress out so much over not being able to go one extra mph over the speed limit?

PluckYew: SurfaceTension: adragontattoo: Dancin_In_Anson: I wonder why everyone is in such a farking hurry to get to the next red light.

I always laugh when I am in town and someone hauls ass as soon as the light turns green.  I always make sure to applaud and congratulate them on winning the race to the red light.  I then profusely apologize for taking so long to arrive.  Best so far was the guy who "raced" me to 5 consecutive red lights.  I was very ashamed that I managed to lose to him so many times.  The cops even pulled him over to congratulate him (I assume that is why they pulled a U-turn and started up their disco lights.)

And I thought the lights in northern Virginia were awfully timed. Where is this hell-hole that you live that has red lights that one can catch 5 consecutive without hitting a green?

Aren't they timed so that, if you go the speed limit in the city, you can catch them as they are turning green?

Sometimes referred as a green wave.

She had ample opportunity to pull over and let him pass, he was an idiot for tailgating and slowing down to give her the bird, unless she sped up to try and prevent him from getting in front of her.

There were a couple of left turn lanes that I could see during that exchange.  When exactly was she going to turn?

Stop trying to control other drivers, that's what the police are for.  End road vigilantes.

Freeways work most efficiently when inside lanes are traveling faster than outside lanes.

Also, driving side-by-side when the rest of the road is clear is just dumb.  Who are you most likely to hit?  The ONLY OTHER CAR ON THE ROAD.

Nope and I have not yet found the speed that works to do that.  Anytime I talk to people about it, we all agree that the lights aren't set(synced?) correctly.  Hell there is one light that I THINK has been fixed (last time I went through it, I was doing the speed limit) finally but it would turn red UNLESS you were doing 10 under the speed limit.

Bf+: A lot of uninformed hate in here.
Left lane loafer doesn't apply in this case:  It wasn't a freeway and she was in the lane to make a left turn.

That's true, but she still shouldn't have taken her hands off the wheel and eyes off the road to film the incident.  If she hadn't gotten out the phone, turned around in her seat, focused on filming instead of driving, and taken at least one hand off the wheel, she would have been doing nothing wrong.

But she did all of those things, and that makes her a shiatty driver.

Sure there is. But this isn't relevant here.

Yes it is. She was impeding traffic in the left lane causing a potentially dangerous situation. She made it worse being a dumbass with her cell phone. it could be argued that she created a dangerous situation that contributed to the dumbass in the truck getting into an accident. So there's plenty of dumbass to go around in this case.

She wasn't impeding traffic and she didn't cause him to tailgate or to later unskillfully cut her off.

Looked like she was impeding to me. It's hard to tell but it looks like she was intentionally trying to box him in. Now he made the stupid move to try and fit through the small gap she left him and lost control. I in no way am absolving redneck truck guy. But her actions made the situation more dangerous. Her actions were just as wreckless and dangerous as his. She is not law enforcement. She's a busy body that admits to recording people she pisses off ona  regular basis.

I outright reject that she is completely innocent in this ordeal. It's absurd to say pulling your cell phone out, loading whatever video recorder, pointing it towards the back window, side window and so on is a safe thing to do.

So much this.

It's not surprising there are so many road ragers on Fark.  Attacking the driver for committing the completely imaginary sin of being in the left lane, even though she was on a regular road with left turn lanes, and was about to turn left,

If being behind someone in traffic enrages you that much, move somewhere with less traffic.  Stress like that is not healthy.

No, no, no. This is Fark. If you're driving in the left lane, it doesn't matter how fast you're going. If the car behind you wants to go faster, that's your problem, and you'd better let them pass you or you're wrong.
Yes, that's why the left lane is called "The Passing Lane". It's not a hard concept to grasp. Stop being a passive aggressive vigilante and move over.

R.A.Danny: sammyk: for good or for awesome: Roads with intersections every few hundred yards don't have fast lanes.  I'm not going to weave in and out of traffic to make my turn just so you can drive a couple miles and hour faster than me.  Even if you are a big tough guy in a truck.

You could like try to be courteous in situations like that. it could even be argued that common sense says letting the dickheaded big tough truck guy go on past you actually makes YOU safer. But nah, kick the anthill. I'm sure you get something out of it.

No. There is no expectation of lane usage nor are there laws about staying to the right on roads like that. Making up rules in your head will only end up with your pickup truck sliding backwards into oncoming traffic.

So I repeat. You want to kick the anthill because you are not a courteous driver. I didn't say anything about the legality.

2014-03-28 10:57:07 AM

BizarreMan: I'm not entirely sure who the jackass is in this particular scenario.

Not to excuse his actions but:

She claims that the road conditions are wet and slick so she doesn't want to speed.  Given the results of speeding and swerving being a crash, she may be correct.

There was apparently enough distance/time for her to get far enough past the car she was passing for him to pass them, cut to the right lane, and then pass her.  Plenty of time for her to get over, let him by, and then move back over to the left lane for her turn.

If it's so dangerous to be on the wet roads, taking care not to wreck.  It should be too dangerous for her to be taking one hand off the wheel and grab her cell phone.  At which point she then finds the app, and aims the phone in his general direction.  Even if she wasn't watching what was being recorded while driving.  That isn't safe driving.  It's damn dangerous.  If the conditions are so bad.

She says on the video and articles that she's made recordings like this before which tells me that she is a passive-aggressive left lane Nazi with AW tendencies.  I'm curious how many other videos she has on YouTube where drivers are being incited to road rage.

if you dont speed this wouldnt happen. especially on wet days.

yeah, what she did wasnt safe, but dickbags like the penis extension truck need darwin to bite their asses, such as in this video :)

I don't think anyone in this thread is absolving the guy of guilt.  Everyone agrees that dude is in the wrong.  But they are pointing out that her antics did nothing to improve the situation, and may have worsened it.  It is likely neither would have crashed had either changed their actions.

At the end of the day, they are both contributing to making the road unsafe.

And this. Lots of passive aggressive narcissistic assholes out there that feel it's their duty to slow down anyone that is going faster then they are. As the video proves, this creates just as much road rage as the speeding dickhead.

/Aggressive driver, but moves to the right for faster cars.

I prefer to drive on the righthand side, for the most part, since I simply tend not to speed very much. When I'm on the highway and move over to the left lane to pass someone, it seems that almost immediately someone will zoom up behind me real fast and wants me to move over. However, when someone is driving like that AND they are right on your ass it suddenly becomes not at all safe to move to the right. Why? Because, as I've experienced first hand, those same people who are in such a rush are the same folks who tend not to use blinkers. It's happened plenty of times that just as I'm moving to the right that the other car decides to pass. At least stay behind me a car-length or so and give me some farking time to move over!

lack of warmth: Dog Welder: For those who missed it, there is no "passing lane" on this road.  She was planning on making a left turn so getting over into the right lane would not have been the proper move.

Also happy to see a road-raging, tailgating douche get what's coming to him, and glad he didn't hit other vehicles in the process.

I second this.  It is simply a four lane road, not an interstate.  There is a five lane road that I take to work that if I'm not in the lane I need 1.5 miles away from my turn, I'm not making my turn.  And I still get people riding my butt when I'm already stuck behind someone else.  I hope he stands as an example to others that if you don't have patience, you don't have license.

This was a surface street, not an interstate. It has unprotected left turns. Drive right, pass on the left does not apply. She did nothing wrong (she's an annoying ass, but that's another story). Once the right lane was clear, Mr. Truck moved into the right lane and could have passed her, the road ahead was open, and instead decided to drive next to her while displaying his belief that Duke is #1. In this case, she did nothing wrong, he was utterly and completely at fault. He got what he deserved.

I never hog the fast lane on the interstate, I move over as fast as I can, no matter how fast the idiot behind me is going.

But if I'm on a regular road (like she was), about to turn left (like she was), and an idiot like that tailgates me, I barely tap the brake pedal while hitting the accelerator.  Just enough to light up the brake lights and make a huge separation between our cars.

If that doesn't work, I'll lift.    I'd never brake test anyone, but fake-brake, yeah, I'll do that.

Yeah, I can be an asshole, but I don't get worked up about it.  And hey, maybe some day I'll get a dickbag like that idiot arrested.  Then again, might get shot.

Coming up meaning the next 1/4 mile or sometime eventually in the next 5 miles I will have to turn left so I will just stay in the left lane until then no matter what?

Before all of the self righteous blow hards arrive to proclaim that they are doing the speed limit so they don't have to move, I would like to provide the following link.  http://www.fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2006/022006/02092006/166829   In this link there is a statement from the Virginia State Police.  "Leave it up to police officers to deal with any violations they might be committing. We'll handle that," he said. "But the law still requires you to move to the right and let them pass."

That means that unless you are a LEO, you don't get to decide to enforce the law.  No!  Not yours!  [3.bp.blogspot.com image 850x494]

The left-lane provision is part of the 226-page [Florida] House Bill 7125. It states that drivers on any road with two or more lanes in the same direction may not drive more than 10 mph slower than the posted speed limit in the left lane if they know they are being overtaken. It does not apply to drivers preparing for a left turn at an intersection.

Emphasis added. The law doesn't allow for you douchebags that feel you need to speed more than the person in front of you. It's there to help those who want to drive the speed limit.

NicktheSmoker: Also, shouldn't she also get a ticket for using her damn phone while driving?

As far as I know, that's not illegal in Florida yet. My brother in law was constantly on his phone/texting/checking email when I visited him down there, drove me nuts. I asked him if he was worried about getting a ticket and he said it wasn't against the law yet.

I watched a longer video than this on another link last night.  As usual, the Fark train assumed the lady driver was driving in the left lane just to jack Ford Truck Man off.  Earlier in the show, she wanted to let the jackass pass but she couldn't move over because there was traffic there.  There was nowhere to go, for christ's sake. By the time there was room, she was too close to her turn.

/ just drove from Pa to SC and back, had to put up with about a thousand Ford Truck Men in a traffic flow going 90 who seemed eerily similar to Mr. Jackass in the movie.  Mostly NC.
// takes balls for Ms. Ladydriver to hold the camera-phone filming behind for that amount of time on wet roads.  Not very smart, either.

What he did was shocking and dangerous, sure, but did she ever stop to think that maybe he was reacting to this crazy biatch ahead of him recording traffic on her cell phone instead of, ohIdunno, WATCHING THE DAMN ROAD??

/they're both dangerous assholes
//burn their licenses and make them take the bus from here on out

adragontattoo: yakmans_dad: adragontattoo: OregonVet: NicktheSmoker: Also, shouldn't she also get a ticket for using her damn phone while driving?

I picked out three tickets: speeding (not enough to bother with a stop tho), distracted driving (phone), and all that shiat in the windshield.

Failure to pay full time and attention since she is more concerned with videoing the guy driving behind/beside her and then being sure to record him crashed.

I wonder if Fl. can issue her a ticket NOW for distracted driving since it is BLATANT that she is using a cell to record video while moving.  There is NO ambiguity about whether or not she was recording.  If recording of a police officer can be used as evidence, shouldn't this count against her?

You wouldn't have a tender conscience, would you?

Nope, why should I?

I have no idea. The vehemence with which you (and many here) express your dislike of the woman sounds like Anger Management issues to me.

Ant: I hate tailgaters way more than I hate people who take one hand off the wheel to film tailgaters. Also, if you have a turn coming up, you have a legitimate reason to be in the left lane.

WTF is it with drivers of those huge pickups driving them like they're tiny sports cars? Jesus farking Christ people, why do you stress out so much over not being able to go one extra mph over the speed limit?

In my experience, large pickup drivers drive as if they own the road, and everyone should yield to them.

There's a size joke in there somewhere.

They sound like the next guy flying off the road and blaming someone else for a once car incident.

adragontattoo: Btw, can anyone explain why people who are shiatty drivers get so mad when I give them a thumbs down?  I must have missed the memo about how thumbs down is more offensive than any other possible gesture.  It is almost comical how mad some people will get.

I usually give 'em the old Little Rascals hi-sign (back of your hand touching your chin, fingers waving).

I get some mighty funny reactions to that one for sure. Try it, you'll like it ;)

Bf+: not watching where she shot

She was watching closely enough to keep the truck in frame.

Bf+: So, according to you, she did nothing wrong.

She still took at least one hand off the wheel in what  she described as bad driving conditions.  She intentionally chose to divide her attention under those circumstances.

Look, if she'd had a friend in the passenger seat doing the filming, then I'd agree her driving was fine.  But the fact that her Weeners to being tailgated was to pull out her phone and start filming demonstrates a serious lack of judgement on her part.

OK... I have a passing legality question.

Suppose you come to a stoplight of a one-lane road that has a left turn lane and a right turn lane.  If you go straight, the road turns into a two-lane road immediately after the stoplight, and continues to stay as such for about 100 yards, at which point it merges back into a one lane road.

If a slow moving vehicle is in front of you at the stop light and you both go straight, is it legal to immediately lane change after the light, pass the slow-moving vehicle on the right, then merge back to the one lane road?

I attempted to do this one day when a large dump truck was in front of me at the light.  The dump truck driver was absolutely pissed and the minute he saw me move into the right lane, he lurched his truck to the right in an attempt to collide with the side of my car.  He was definitely not trying to just scare me as he got about 2 inches from my car before I took my vehicle fully into the ditch to avoid him.  There was absolutely no where else I could've gone to avoid the collision.

I couldn't fathom why a professional driver would attempt to collide with another vehicle simply because he didn't want me to pass -- unless he knew the entire altercation would be deemed my fault from a legal stand point. Anyone know the specifics on something like this?
