Chow was lauded by U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California for his work as a former offender who had become a community role model, and praised by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee for his "willingness to give back to the community."

He posted pictures of himself on Facebook with Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.

All the while he was running a criminal operation, according to court documents.

I guess not really all that surprising

If Yee is convicted and does some time, he can always come to Chicago and get a job.  Those things look good on your resume around here. But, he'll have to get himself a Irish sounding middle name, so people know he's one of the "good guys".

What I find even more interesting about this case is that the feds caught Leland Yee, a California state senator on charges of corruption and gun smuggling.  For those who don't know, Leland Yee made a name for himself for being an enthusiastic gun-control supporter.  He also annoyed the gaming community by waving around video game packages at his lectures, claiming that they encourage violent behavior.  I can't wait to hear from the usual bunch of hoplophobes to sound off on this.

Amazing how an article about a secondary target in this FBI operation warrants a greenlight but the main target, Yee, doesn't.

Yee is just like any other ultra liberal or ultra right wing politician, yelling and screaming about something all the while doing the complete opposite behind closed doors.

Every news report I've seen has had Yee as the headliner, with Shrimp Boy coming into the story later.  Fark is the only place where I've seen Shrimp Boy get higher billing, but I figured that's because Shrimp Boy is such a ridiculous name for a crime lord.

I feel Shrimp Boy is the bigger catch in all of this, but sadly, he probably wouldn't even have been caught if he hasn't gotten involved with Yee because that's who the Feds were actually interested in.

Also, Yee is the second State Senator to get popped by the Feds in the last few months, both in fairly elaborate sting operations. Makes you wonder about why they thought CA legislatures were good targets.

It is odd that no mention of Yee (a fairly high ranking California Democrat) wasn't in the headline AND it wasn't put in politics where it really belongs.

Tumbleweed Garden: Also, Yee is the second State Senator to get popped by the Feds in the last few months, both in fairly elaborate sting operations. Makes you wonder about why they thought CA legislatures were good targets.

3rd senator, not the 2nd one. This one took away the super majority from the California Democrats in the state senate. Plus apparently there are 26 more people named in the affidavit, who those people are hasn't been released yet but it wouldn't surprise me if there were at least one or two more high ranking people in Sacramento who are listed.

If Holder does with this like he did with Reid and the State of Utah prosecutors office and quietly kills the FBI and DOJ side of the investigation then he ought to be impeached. The affidavit in this case has Yee involved in trying to acquire and bring into the country Stinger missiles bought from Muslim extremists in the Philippines and then fleeing the country to "Retire at 65" as well as asking for over $20k in bribes to get the medical marijuana laws passed (he allegedly got $11k from an FBI undercover agent). Then there's trafficking in stolen liquor and running guns Then there's the charges regarding voter fraud that he was allegedly involved in...

All of this from a guy who was (on the record anyway) about as pro-gun regulation (as in no guns for the plebes at all) as they get in California. A lot of San Francisco's gun laws were either written by him or heavily influenced by him (as well as Feinstein, who is nowhere near as pure as the driven snow after the millions of dollars worth of federal construction contracts she has steered towards her husbands construction company).

California Democrats are at least as corrupt as Detroits or New Orleans, it's just that they have some pretty good cover from up high because no Democrat wants to lose our electoral votes or senate seats to a Republican ever again.

Probably. But once Yee was looking to get his hands on Stinger Missiles they probably had to pull the trigger on the arrests. Stolen goods getting shipped out of the country is one thing, shoulder launched missiles disappearing inside our borders is a bit more serious.
